The Iranian Football Federation sent Israel greetings on the New Year this week.
Planet Iran reported this news from Al-Arabiya:

The Iranian Football Federation accidentally sent a New Year’s greeting to its Israeli counterpart, which responded wishing “all of the good people in Iran a happy new year,” Israeli media reported late on Thursday.

Mohammad Ali Ardebili, head of Iranian football union’s foreign relations, told Israel’s Army Radio he sent the letter to all football unions around the world but he did not intend to send it to the Israel Football Association.

Ardebili sent the greeting letter by email and the Army Radio managed to reach him for comment by phone.

“This is a greeting sent to the entire word,” he said, then he inquired quickly, “Are you speaking from Israel? I can’t speak to you. This is a mistake, this is a mistake.”

The Israeli Football Association (IFA) received the letter with surprise but did not hesitate to send a response, the union’s spokesman Gil Lebanony told the radio station.

  1. “Are you speaking from Israel? I can’t speak to you.”

    How childish.

  2. My complete and total thought on first read: “Heh.”

But, the uncontrolled snarkaholic took over and……

I think Israel should wish Iran well in it’s endeavours. Really.

Tt should take a flight of between 32 to 40 IAF F-15′s and F-16′s, plus 4 air tankers and two AWACS for “delivery” of the “very brightly lit” new year’s “message”.

    Cheers !

  3. …DOH.!!

  4. What a wonderful way to start the new year. The Israeli response is classic sauve faire, something the idiots running Iran could certainly use, among other acts of decency/

  5. God Bless Israel!!!!

God has already damned IRAN for they have rejected HIM.

    Ezekiel 38!!!!

  6. I suspect the head of the Iranian football union may be covering his “goal”.

  7. Once again, Israel shows how a civilized nation behaves. Notice, too, that they wished well to “all of the good people in Iran.” Hmm, I wonder who’s excluded from that category?

  8. Did the Iranians also send a new years greeting to the “great satan”, since they sent one to the “little satan” it would be quite rude to exclude us from the festive mood.

  9. If Israel hasn’t gotten a good sportsmanship award yet, now would be the perfect time.

  10. This guy will probably disappear any time now because Ahmadi is not going to be happy about this.

  11. It is probably a dangerous thing to be seen as sending Israel a Happy New Year greeting. He probably realizes there could be severe consequences to doing such a thing, even in error.

I think Israel probably knew it was in error, but took the opportunity to show that they aren’t the enemy, but the enemy is within Iran.

  12. Proposed response: “We here at the Israeli Football Association (IFA) would like to extend our thanks to the Iranian Football Federation, and extend our own wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year in return.”

Israel’s greatest Rabbi was right, being nice to your enemies is a good thing for you, and cheezes them off something fierce.
