Climate Chief Knew About Bogus Glacier Data Before Copenhagen Summit …Update: They Fudged Rain Forest Data Too!

Rajendra Pachauri, chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) since 2002, was told about the bogus glacier melting studies before the UN Copenhagen Summit and kept silent.

The chairman of the leading climate change watchdog was informed that claims about melting Himalayan glaciers were false before the Copenhagen summit, The Times has learnt.
Rajendra Pachauri was told that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change assessment that the glaciers would disappear by 2035 was wrong, but he waited two months to correct it. He failed to act despite learning that the claim had been refuted by several leading glaciologists.
The IPCC’s report underpinned the proposals at Copenhagen for drastic cuts in global emissions.
Dr Pachauri, who played a leading role at the summit, corrected the error last week after coming under media pressure. He told The Times on January 22 that he had only known about the error for a few days. He said: “I became aware of this when it was reported in the media about ten days ago. Before that, it was really not made known. Nobody brought it to my attention. There were statements, but we never looked at this 2035 number.”
Asked whether he had deliberately kept silent about the error to avoid embarrassment at Copenhagen, he said: “That’s ridiculous. It never came to my attention before the Copenhagen summit. It wasn’t in the public sphere.”
However, a prominent science journalist said that he had asked Dr Pachauri about the 2035 error last November. Pallava Bagla, who writes for Science journal, said he had asked Dr Pachauri about the error. He said that Dr Pachauri had replied: “I don’t have anything to add on glaciers.”
The Himalayan glaciers are so thick and at such high altitude that most glaciologists believe they would take several hundred years to melt at the present rate. Some are growing and many show little sign of change.

In the Fourth Assessment Report (AR4), issued in 2007 by the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), scientists wrote that 40 percent of the Amazon rainforest in South America was endangered by global warming.
But that assertion was discredited this week when it emerged that the findings were based on numbers from a study by the World Wildlife Federation that had nothing to do with the issue of global warming — and that was written by a freelance journalist and green activist.
The IPCC report states that “up to 40 percent of the Amazonian forests could react drastically to even a slight reduction in precipitation” — highlighting the threat climate change poses to the Earth. The report goes on to say that “it is more probable that forests will be replaced by ecosystems … such as tropical savannas.”
But it has now been revealed that the claim was based on a WWF study titled “Global Review of Forest Fires,” a paper barely related to the Amazon rainforest that was written “to secure essential policy reform at national and international level to provide a legislative and economic base for controlling harmful anthropogenic forest fires.”
EUReferendum, a blog skeptical of global warming, uncovered the WWF association. It noted that the original “40 percent” figure came from a letter published in the journal Nature that discussed harmful logging activities — and again had nothing to do with global warming.

Actually that line is at most partially true. The Jones incident may not see trial because FOIA requests statute of limitations is expired. There are still 2 different approaches by the cops that can be used to try him for fraud.

Pachauri is the international version of Al Gore, as far as trying to sell the global warming goes. Only, he is more connected than you might think, and more influential in the UN circles.
This continuing scandal also encompasses our own institutions, notably NOAA and NASA. They are feeding questionable information to Washington, and costly policy decisions are being made on the basis of faulty data.

This news was actually out 12/5/09 published by the BBC. Report is still there, but has gone unnoticed. The BBC didn’t make Pachauri’s comments the headline, those weren’t mentioned til a bit into the report. Headline did reference a Himalayas “mistake” which was reported to be the 300 year item. Included Pach. saying a distinguished scientist in India was using “voodoo science.” This should have blown open Copenhagen but no one picked up on it. News is around but trillions are at stake in carbon trading so it’s kept quiet. Americans don’t realize strict carbon offsets programs have already been strong armed at state levels, so it won’t matter much if Obama’s plans go through. When Soros and Goldman Sachs are behind something, so is the media.
