Brit Hume told Bill O’Reilly tonight that he wasn’t proselytizing when he suggested yesterday that Tiger Woods become Christian to help him with his marital problems. The left attacked Hume mercilessly for promoting Christianity on FOX News Sunday.

Tonight Humes said that, “Jesus Christ offers Tiger Woods something Tiger Woods desperately needs:”

More… So we can talk about Tiger’s sex life, but not his religion?

  1. I have no problem with what Hume said, but this defending Tiger crap has to end. What about the wife and kids? Has anyone asked what THEY are going through? And this whole ‘men are cheaters’ nonsense. One man, 15 or more women. Men are the cheaters?

  2. What the hell is going on in the circus that is Obama??? HE’S APPOINTED A DAMN TRANNY, a shedude to a high level cabinet position!
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2010/01/04/2010-01-04_cmklzcAmanda Simpson, who used to be test pilot Mitchell Simpson, will make a bit of history Tuesday as she starts work as a senior technical advisor at the Commerce Department.

  3. I don’t have a problem with the content of what Hume said. Unfortunately the way that he went about it and in that forum is the least likely way to produce any results other than the opposite.

To the commenter above, of course his wife and kids should be our main concern as they are the innocent victims here, but there is nothing better for them than a morally reformed husband and father. I say husband in the hopes that if he did repent and reform that it would be in time to put his family back together. Of course, he will always be the father of those kids. His redeemed example would be beacon for them for how to pick yourself up, how to ask forgiveness and receive it (not always easy to do) and to leave the bad behavior behind you for good. I hope that he can be that kind of example for his kids someday.

  4. It’s become quite clear to me that the proprietor of this blog needs to seek the services of a mental health professional.

  5. Jesus Christ is not on record as a paragon of morality; I’ll blog it tomorrow.

  6. What Tiger needs is the intestinal fortitude to own up to what he did, face the music, and start golfing again.

He doesn’t need Budda, Christ, or anyone else to do this.

Here are some tips (and questions) for Hume:

    1) You’re paid for your opinion on politics. How you came to believe that you’re an authority on a subject that has divided Mankind since the dawn of time eludes me.

    2) You don’t know what Tiger needs. His wife may have forgiven him. He may have forgiven himself. He may not need the forgiveness of his wife as she may have been aware of his activities (as were many of his friends). He may not believe that he needs to forgive himself. Perhaps, his only “sin” as between him and his wife (and, therefore, his beliefs) is that he broke the rule to be discreet in his sexual appetites. Maybe the path he’s on is just a calculated path to getting back his sponsors. YOU DON’T KNOW, and political analyst that you are, you don’t even have a CLUE as to what the RELIGIOUS remedy(s) are for WHATEVER it is that (maybe) ails him.

    3) While you (and most of America) may believe that Christianity is the “one truth” (in its many, diverse and contradictory forms), this isn’t true of those who do not believe in the divinity of Christ. Are you under the impression that Tiger, a follower of the teachings of Budda, is unaware of the teachings attributed to Christ, or that, in this moment of pain (if such he is in) he would turn to a God he denies exists for solace? Are you that obtuse?

    4) While Christ is the answer for many, it isn’t the answer for all. Is it your position that followers of all other religions are wrong, and, therefore, are going to “burn in hell” for all eternity because they choose to follow a different path to their Godhead?

    5) Just say you spoke out of your nether regions without thinking and move on. Maybe you’ll be forgiven your arrogance.

  7. Steve Harvey in “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man” offers exactly the same advice.

He comments that he doesn’t know any man “of power” who hasn’t cheated, but that a wife will not tolerate it, and sometimes, when a man sees himself losing everything he really loved, he will reform and become an excellent husband and father.

  8. Huey, you really have a problem with Brit giving his opinion don’t you?

And sorry, there is only one path to God. Christ told us it was Him. If you want to believe that there are “many paths”, go for it. Problem is if you are wrong, wouldn’t want to be you.

  9. and that is how express yourself in a free republic. Christianity has always been criticized; it won’t stop either, so might as well tell it like it is. good for Brit! to say anything of that sort takes some big “ca-hon…”

  10. Hey, Huey, do you think someone like Billy Graham is arrogant and ignorant?

  11. Do I sound terse if I suggest that whatever Tiger Woods does or doesn’t do is no concern of mine?

  12. [Pretend Hume is a Muslim]

Tiger, you can divorce your wife. Repeat after me, “I divorce you, I divorce you, I divorce you…

and the kids are YOURS, not hers.

Alimony, what’s that? You can have 4 more wives–Allah said so.

If they are not obedient, beat them. It’s in the Qu’ran.

Would you like to make a donation to CAIR? It’s tax deductible.

We have some great golf courses in Dubai, but the sandtraps, IEEEE!
    —————————————-

OK, there’s another path for all who shun Christianity. I don’t think you’re going to like the destination.

  13. It’s a commentary show; that means–duh!–a show where people express their opinions. Why do some people want to forbid Brit Hume from sharing his?

WHY IS IT OKAY TO EXPRESS ANY OPINION, NO MATTER HOW WARPED OR PERVERTED–BUT NOT OKAY TO EXPRESS A CHRISTIAN OPINION????

I hope Brit Hume’s forthrightness will encourage other “closet Christians” in the media to talk freely and quit censoring themselves like a bunch of paranoiacs.

But then, I don’t know if Brit Hume even IS a Christian. It’s possible that he’s just more well-read than the average American and has seen the mountains of data from prisons and drug rehab centers showing that the ONLY programs, statistically, that show REAL RESULTS in terms of drastically lowered rates of recidivism and relapse are CHRISTIAN programs.
For example, click on “Programs” at:
    http://www.prisonfellowship.org/prison-fellowship-home

  14. I too hope that others follow Brit Hume in expressing the truth that Jesus Christ offers to all. Go Brit…

  15. This took both conviction and courage on Britt’s part… a big Hear! Hear! to him.

But, at the same time, I would hope this is EVIDENCE that many have been PRAYING FOR Tiger… as that should be our FIRST reaction rather than knee-jerk condemnation.

  16. Brit is dead on right, and I’m astonished to hear these comments from so big a newsman. Tiger is in a state of despair (all that night golfing he’s allegedly doing signifies that). His wife has allegedly left him, his mother too. What does he have? Nothing. Not even golf. Where can he go to be restored? Only to Christ cuz Christianity is the only religion that offers confession and absolution. Once he has made his peace with God, Tiger will be strengthened so he can make peace with his wife and rebuild familial connections. If Tiger were to take Brit’s advice, he’d be a great man.

  17. Brit expressed his heartfelt thoughts on what path he feels would help. Agree or disagree, he has every right to express that view. Is it now illegal to do so? Not quite yet….but baby steps…

  18. In the eyes of the libs, it’s heresay to mention Christianity in a good light. Brit is a brave man, who truly wanted to start Tiger’s year on a good note.
    .

  19. “Agree or disagree, he has every right to express that view.”

Oh boy, the old “disagreeing with what someone said=”wanting to criminalize what someone said” line again.

  20. Instapundit weighs in on the issue:

CALL ME CRAZY, but I don’t think religion is Tiger Woods’ problem. Plus, “What’s your advice for, say, Mark Sanford?”

UPDATE: A response to Hume from Buddhist Republican Charles Martin.

  21. Brit spoke his convictions. To NOT do so would be hypocritical. Brit was also (likely) aware of the repercussions he would face for taking a stand. Taking a stand for Christ is not optional for a New Testament believer. Jesus’ message wasn’t well received when he preached it, and He warned His followers they would face the same.

  22. Mr. Rotter,

It’s coming. Just a matter of time. All part of the fall of the West. We will all be criminals soon.

  23. Go Brit. You da man. This truth divides people, and people don’t like to hear truth. All these negative knee jerk reactions reminds me of how and why the US has fallen as far as Tiger has, and the cure this country is the same as Tiger’s…repent and rely on God through the saving work of Jesus.

  24. If he had said to seek forgiveness from Obama through a new government program and sign up his kids on Medicaid, Britt would be a hero.

  25. Medicaid is a “new” government program, Joe?

  26. Brit is right about Jesus Christ and as an American citizen has every right to express his opinion and his faith. God bless you all.

  27. After seeing many of the comments on this site, I would encourage many of the commenters here to actually investigate, and perhaps practice Buddhism, to get over their resentment at non-Christians.

  28. Jesus can’t help anyone. Tiger is on his own. Vicarious redemption is empty. Tiger will have to take care of this on his own.

  29. Inconvenient truth:
Jews, Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, Pagans all believe in the reality of sin and the cosmic need for atonement for sin thru sacrifice.

Where they diverge is the nature of the sacrifice needed to wash one clean of sin.

It’s atheists who are the global odd man out, refusing any acknowledgement of sin.

We’ve lived and worked with all of the above in their home countries where the practice of religion is not the pastel-toned, smoothy bland, elevator music, thin tea versions usually found in the USA. No one ever got offended by Christians living Christian lives – and all would recognize that Tiger Woods has a big big big spiritual problem.

But atheists! What a bunch of prissy, insecure screechers. Their faith in themselves so weak they can’t handle comments like Brit Hume’s without having a hissy fit? Like a gaggle of harpies. What’s their “sage” advice to Woods? Keep cheating on his wife and kids with money-grubby people who could care less about him, until he sickens with an STD, infects his wife and they both die leaving his kids really rich orphans who would be the targets of every greedy shark on the planet with no loving family to defend them?

Perhaps the athiests are biased towards the animal sacrificial route and prefer to counsel Tiger Woods to slaughter 100 cattle, 50 rams, 300 chickens on his front yard, and cross his fingers that he’s covered from his wife’s baseball batter swing.

What’s easier? The blood slaughter or opening the Bible, reading, reviewing what he’s done wrong along the way – a brutal self-examination – humbly asking for forgiveness from God first, then his wife and kids and starting over with a clean slate, living the way he should have been living, but chose not to.

    Nope, just whining and yelling.

  30. We occasionally hear the leftist phrase “post-Christian era” but it’s really just another lefty spin job.

They are trying to conceal what they are doing by softening the tone and painting it asa a foregone conclusion. They are hate-filled ANTI-Christians. Make no mistake about it.

Brit Hume: “Jesus Christ offers Tiger Woods
    something Tiger Woods desperately needs.”

    eh, that’s nothing..

Obama offers US “Collective Salvation” via
US sacrificing for his individual salvation..

    and not only that..

but he, being a sort of god, not to mention messiah via all that BLT &
Islamist jazz, will accomplish that via “CREATING A KINGDOM ON

    Coulter is back!! :-)

If you can find a better deal, take it!

[Someone mentioned Christianity on television recently, and liberals reacted with their usual howls of rage and blinking incomprehension.

On a Fox News panel discussing Tiger Woods, Brit Hume said, perfectly accurately:

"The extent to which he can recover, it seems to me, depends on his faith. He is said to be a Buddhist. I don't think that faith offers the kind of forgiveness and redemption that is offered by the Christian faith. So, my message to Tiger would be, 'Tiger, turn to the Christian faith and you can make a total recovery and be a great example to the world.'"

Hume's words, being 100 percent factually correct, sent liberals into a tizzy of sputtering rage, once again illustrating liberals' copious ignorance of Christianity. (Also illustrating the words of the Bible: "How is it you do not understand me when I speak? It is because you cannot bear to listen to my words" [John 8:43].)

    [..]

The Gospel makes this point approximately 1,000 times. Here are a few examples at random:

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8).

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

In a boiling rage, liberals constantly accuse Christians of being “judgmental.” No, we’re relieved.

Christianity is also the hardest religion in the world because, if you believe Christ died for your sins and rose from the dead, you have no choice but to give your life entirely over to Him. No more sexual promiscuity, no lying, no cheating, no stealing, no killing inconvenient old people or unborn babies – no doing what all the other kids do.

And no more caring what the world thinks of you – because, as Jesus warned in a prophecy constantly fulfilled by liberals: The world will hate you.

With Christianity, your sins are forgiven, the slate is wiped clean and your eternal life is guaranteed through nothing you did yourself, even though you don’t deserve it. It’s the best deal in the universe.]
