A good solid B+… It took Obama three days to make a statement on the “alleged suspect” and lone terrorist.
And, it took him a week to tie the Detroit underwear bomber to Al-Qaeda… And, this was after the Saudis warned his staff about Al-Qaeda underwear bombers back in October.
Barack Obama blamed Al-Qaeda for the Christmas Day terror attack today.
Guess he wasn’t a lone terrorist, after all, huh?
No wonder people keep saying he’s trying to pretend we’re not at war.
Why I’m Not a Democrat has more on Obama’s first weekly address of the year.

At what point does this become “What did the President know and when did he know it?”
It will take a Republican House and Senate to do it. But it has to be done at this point. That has to be the goal of the RNC and of the Tea Party Movement. This country will simply not survive three more years of Obama.
Time to explore impeachment. Clinton only got away with it because the Senate was split 50-50 and Gore cast the deciding vote to acquit. We need a Senate that will be willing to convict if the evidence is there, and that means we need to take back the Senate in 2010.
The failure to impeach Clinton lead directly to the USS Cole bombing and 9/11.
Never forget that.

Not if we’re after them. That dynamic can work the other way too.
However, the entire effort is undermined by political correctness. Without our top officials stating the ideological elements at every opportunity, we are simply playing “wack-a-mole” with the underlings. We are doing this at the individual level as in this case, and also the national level with our war efforts.
One of the greatest opportunities was missed in Iraq, when the terrorists turned on the Iraqi people. Rather than state openly the failure of the ideology to win the support of the people, we allowed the dynamic to pass and wane, thus lessening its effect.
Every terrorist should be stated by name and the clerics and mosques he has visited should be called out. Questions should be asked, interviews of these clerics conducted and shown to the public. Make these theological throwbacks defend their ideology on international television. The ideology should be challenged on specific theological grounds, such as pointedly calling the Koranic passages and countering them with competing passages, along with stating the effect of these outdated ideas on a modern society and innocent peoples.
Make the clerics defend the effect of lives destroyed by their acolytes, make the clerics defend the fact that their ideas must be spread by violence and coercion instead of debate and persuasion.
If we persist in avoiding this essential ideological confrontation, then we will instead face the possibility of endless physical confrontation.

It’s not over until it’s over
According to John Brennan, head of the White House’s homeland security office, the war on terrorism is over. From now on, the administration will never use terms like “jihadists” and “global war” because doing so, as Mr. Brennan said, “risks giving these murderers the religious legitimacy they desperately seek but in no way deserve.” He insisted that the U.S. is at “war with al Qaeda” (“U.S. no longer at war with ‘terrorism’ ,” Page 1, Friday).
Could we be more blind? Acts of terror are rooted in the aspirations of Islamists to create an Islamic state and impose their version of Shariah law.
As a devout Muslim who, like many others across the world, is dedicated to fighting Islamism and its radical offshoots, I believe there is nothing more dangerous to our security in the long term than the leader of the free world remaining in categorical denial about the essence of this ever-so-real contest of ideas.
Al Qaeda had nothing to do with the string of radical Islamists arrested across the country — from North Carolina to New York, Oregon and New Jersey (to name but a few) — in the last year alone. The only thing these radicals have in common is their belief in a militant version of political Islam.
I certainly can understand the concern of making this a clash of religions, but that should not lead to outright misinformation. There is a civil war happening within the Muslim consciousness — between those who advocate for the Islamic state (Islamists) and those who believe in secular liberal democracies.
It certainly is not the role of any administration to determine who are “good” and “bad” jihadists. Not calling them exactly what they call themselves makes the White House the arbiter of who is and who is not a Muslim. This avoidance behavior allows American Islamists, like the Muslim Brotherhood’s front groups in Washington, to continue to deny their responsibility to lead the Islamic reform effort against Islamism and its role in radicalization — the real existential threat to the West.
The last administration used a term far too vague, labeling the tactic of terror as the enemy rather than the ideology of militant Islamism. Now we have swung the other way, targeting a single group that is but one manifestation of a global movement. The movement radicalizes Muslims and remains an ever-present danger to our citizenry and it should be identified as such.

Even worse, they allow obama to pass the buck to someone else. They blamed Bush for the Gorelick ironwall in intelligence, but turn a blind when obama and his staff did not act when informed of the threat. Customs Chief Reverses Himself: Confirms Report Of 2nd Man Held From Flight 253…
Something smells about this whole story…
Detroit — A federal customs and border protection official reversed himself today, admitting a passenger from Northwest Flight 253 was placed in handcuffs, searched and released after a canine alerted officers to his carry-on luggage.
Ronald G. Smith, chief U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer in the Detroit area, sent an email to The Detroit News late Thursday apologizing that the information on the passenger — which was reported to federal investigators by a pair of Taylor attorneys who were passengers on the flight — was not made available earlier.
Federal officials had denied the details of the incident despite repeated accounts by attorneys Kurt and Lori Haskell of Taylor who say they saw a man get questioned by federal officials and be led away from the airport baggage area in handcuffs after a sniffer dog reacted to something in the man’s carry-on luggage.
The couple said the man, who appeared to be in his early 30s and of Indian descent, was taken to a room for questioning and later led out of that room in handcuffs.
In the email, which was also sent to the couple, Smith said he had just received a piece of information he did not have previously and hopes “it will clear up the matter.”
Smith said the man was handcuffed and escorted to a room where he was interviewed and searched. Nothing was found. The man was not arrested or detained, and no further information was available about him, Smith said.
“This information is consistent with eyewitness accounts,” Smith said.
In previous statements, the FBI has said only one man from the flight was arrested. That man, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, a 23-year-old Nigerian being held at the Milan federal prison, is charged with trying to destroy an aircraft and taking a destructive device aboard an aircraft. He created a small fire before landing when he tried to set off explosive chemicals hidden in his underwear, according to court records.

Kristol Crushes
[Mark Finkelstein at NewsBusters provides the highlights:
Bill Kristol has set forth a stinging indictment of the Obama admin’s handling of the war on terror. His two-minute monologue on today’s
Fox News Sunday delineated a devastating bill of particulars:
# It was a mistake to treat Abdul Mutallab as a criminal defendant rather than as an enemy combatant: “Mr. Brennan [Obama's top counter-terrorism adviser who appeared earlier] said to you that we’re very worried that there’re other Abdul Mutallabs out there. This Abdul Mutallab was there for four months. He might know who the others are. He might know their names. Will you let him lawyer up?”
# As to Brennan’s claim that there was no “smoking gun” regarding Abdul Mutallab: “He is the smoking gun,” going on to detail all the red flags surrounding him. “Frankly, for Mr. Brennan to say, well, no smoking gun, that itself shows a kind of not-serious-about-the-war mentality.”
The Weekly Standard editor wasn’t through . . .
# “Closing the embassy in Yemen last night? No one wants State Department officials put at risk, but that is a sign of weakness. Closing the embassy? We can’t protect our own embassy in Yemen, a place where we have special operations forces. A place we say we’re working with the government on the front lines of the war on terror? And there’s a terror threat, and we close the embassy?
# Kristol’s damning summation: “That’s a victory for al Qaeda. This
last week has been a victory for al Qaeda in that region, I’m afraid.”]

Pundita: Whaddya mean there was no smoking gun, Mr
Brennan? More nonsense from Abdulmutallab terror case
[Market Watch reports that Deputy National Security Adviser John Brennan, who made the rounds on TV talk shows this morning, told
ABC’s “This Week” that there was no “smoking gun” or single piece
of intelligence that indicated Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was going
to try
to mount an attack.
Actually, the CIA had very specific information that pointed directly
to an imminent terrorist attack. Before reviewing the information I’ll
let Mr Brennan continue talking himself out on a limb.
From the Market Watch report:
“We had the information that came from his father where he was concerned about his son going to Yemen, consorting with extremists, and that he was not going to go back. We also though had other streams of information coming from intelligence channels that were little snippets,” Brennan said [...] “We may have had a partial name, we might have had an indication of a Nigerian, but there was nothing that brought it all together.”
He added that the government needs to do a better job of bringing that sort of information together, “so when a father comes in with information and we have intelligence, we can map that up so that we stop individuals like Abdulmutallab from getting on a plane.”
You lie, sir, or maybe someone lied to you, or your assistants need to keep you better informed. Kudos to blogger Dan Riehl at Riehl World View for rescuing an important ABC News investigative report, dated December 31, from year-end news cycle oblivion. ]
