MEDIA ADVISORY FOR TODAY

Dan Winslow, counsel for the Scott Brown for U.S. Senate campaign, will hold a media availability to announce the filing of a criminal complaint against the Massachusetts Democratic Party regarding a recent mailing paid for and sent by the Massachusetts Democratic Party. Winslow will make a statement and take reporters’ questions at MassGOP Headquarters in Boston TODAY at 4:00 PM.

Massachusetts GOP Headquarters
85 Merrimac Street, 4th Floor
Boston.

Scott Brown filed this complaint against the SEIU in December.
FOX News Boston reported:

BOSTON – Republican Senate hopeful Scott Brown has filed a complaint with the State Ethics Commission after a report that a union backing rival Martha Coakley used state resources to urge workers to volunteer for Coakley’s campaign.

The report by FOX25 said the Service Employees International Union used state computers and e-mail addresses to direct state employees to volunteer for Coakley, the Democratic state attorney general.

UPDATE: Today’s complaint was in response to this horrible Democrat Party mailer:

— Brown filed a complaint against the democratic party for this outrageous attack.
The Washington Post reported:

Republican Scott Brown charged Saturday that a Democratic mailing against his U.S. Senate campaign violates a Massachusetts law prohibiting false statements against a political candidate.

The cover of a four-page mailer sent by the Massachusetts Democratic Party says, “1,736 women were raped in Massachusetts in 2008. Scott Brown wants hospitals to turn them all away.”

Brown is a state senator, and in 2005 he filed an amendment that would have allowed workers at religious hospitals or with firmly held religious beliefs to avoid giving emergency contraception to rape victims. The amendment failed, and Brown voted in favor of a bill allowing the contraception. He also voted to override a veto issued by his fellow Republican, then-Gov. Mitt Romney.

UPDATE: Even some hardcore liberals are upset with the Coakley rape ad.

UPDATE: The penalty is $1,000 or up to 6 months in jail.

A section of the Massachusetts General Laws prohibits false statements against political candidates that are designed or tend “to aid or to injure or defeat such candidate,” with a penalty of to $1,000 fine and up to six months in prison.

Brown campaign legal counsel Daniel Winslow said, “People can shade things and spin things, but it has to have some kernel of truth.”

Brown is locked in a dead heat with Democrat Martha Coakley, the state’s attorney general, in the race to succeed the late Sen. Edward Kennedy. Independent Joseph L. Kennedy, who is not related to the famed Kennedy family, is also on Tuesday’s ballot.

Winslow called on the Democratic Party and the Coakley campaign to disavow the mailer’s claim. The Brown campaign plans to wait until Tuesday, the next business day, before seeking a legal remedy, he said.

UPDATE: Here’s the video from the press conference this afternoon.

UPDATE: From a contact in Massachusetts:

I went to the Brown Express event in Middleboro, Massachusetts. I talked to a couple of staffers. I was hoping to come back & give you something but you beat me to it . LOL You got it faster than I who was there…
BTW about 300 to 400 at the event

  1. This is the transparency we been waiting for. love it!!!!

  2. Ummmm… Coakley IS the Attorney General! This will be interesting… will Coakley, the MA Attorney General, take action against SEIU for supporting her campaign? Damned if she does, damned if she doesn’t!

  3. Wonder if the people of Massachusetts will be disgusted enough at the apparent corruption to turn out in droves for Brown?

  4. YES!!!!!!!!!!!It’s about time somebody holds their feet to the fire. GO GET ‘EM MR. BROWN. DO NOT BACK DOWN.

YOU HAVE AMERICA ON YOUR SIDE!!!!

Obama/Seiu/Soros/Acorn……See ya all in court. Oh ya, and Eric Holder and Harry Reid too.

  5. Coakley: The Electoral Equivalent of a Biblical Plague.

  6. SEIU is trying to smear Brown on the top banner of the Boston Herald’s homepage. Drip, drip, drip…

    http://www.bostonherald.com

  7. Hahahahaha….foot meet ass, this is just getting better by the day. I’d even predict that tomorrow at the last minute Obama all of a sudden decides to go to Haiti because he wants to see the damage “in person” hahahaha. Ahhhh…history…witness…be part of.

  8. I think Brown is starting something that’s been long overdue. Flood the courts with this stuff. This IS the transparency and accountability we’ve been waiting for.

  9. This is actually great timing. Coakley, the MA Attorney General, has now 1) committed copyright infringement on UPS’s slogan, and 2) slandered Brown about rape victims, and 3) accepted illegal assistance from SEIU who used state resources to campaign for her. All of this stuff hits the fan on Saturday… and you know who is coming to town tomorrow. How is Obama going to get up there on stage with an Attorney General who just committed THREE CRIMES and endorse her for Senate? He’ll do it… and flush any remaining credibility down the toilet.

  10. O’Dumbo didn’t visit the Midwest during the flooding disasters so it’s 99% sure he’ll visit his socialist/communist friends in Haiti.

  11. At this point, the only thing left for Croakley to do is to ask Joe Biden to come to Massachusetts…if he can find it.

  12. Clearly, this union is not a labor union in any traditional sense. Union members ought to demand an audit of their books. My guess is that the union Pension and Health and Benefit funds are near bankrupt after having spent so much to get Dems elected. they are sellling their members down the river. It is a front for the Communists, and it is so much a part of the Democrat operation that they can go into government offices and use government computers. What does that tell you about what is going on here. You go try to use a government computer. See how far you get. Whose government is this?

  13. I’m glad to see this, because it means they’re probably also keeping an eagle eye out for SEIU and/or ACORN fraud activities.

  14. LOL Great timing, I can’t wait to see Martha’s office investigate Martha.

  15. What about the President filming a Coakley ad from the map room at the Whitehouse? Isn’t that a violation of election laws? All these rules just get in the way of hope and change.

  16. Coakley would have to immediately recuse and pass the complaint UPstairs to Obama’s Feds to investigate and prosecute, if probable cause is found….And, therein, sports fans, is where Eric Holder falls flat on HIS face…This time on purpose.

  17. Keep hammering, make them live up to their own rules. Counter – Alinsky tactics, love it!

  18. This kind of crap has been going on for years – public employee unions using state resources to assist democrat canditates. During the Reagan-Mondale campaign I was teaching a class of 30 or 40 state employees in Detroit. As we broke for lunch at noon, an MSEA rep (a state employee union representing a large chunk of the state civil service workforce) came into the room and announced that department heads had authorized anyone who wanted to skip the afternoon session to attend a Mondale rally in Detroit. Only a few of my class returned after lunch.

Several weeks later Reagan was in town. Needless to say, no similar announcement was made for that rally, and I suspect any state employee who had skipped class to attend the Gipper’s rally would have been subject to disciplinary action had the absence come to the attention of departmental management.

  19. Yes!!!! Go Scott Brown….there are many Texans rooting you on!!!!!!!

ACORN and the SEIU should be abolished. They have shown themselves to be nothing but a group of unethical thugs.

Let’s pray that these two groups don’t steal votes as they are so known to do.

Take the high road, Massachusetts, we’re all watching as you hold the hand that will get our country back on track.

God bless Scott Brown and God Bless America!!

  20. 1) physical violence against a journalist
    2) copyright infringement
    3) slander
    4) misuse of taxpayers money

    What next Coakley?

    a) instant citizenship and voter registration for illegals in Mass?
    b) stealing and destroying Brown votes?
    c) bribery?
    d) declaring “2nd home” status to thousands of outsiders?
    e) sleeping pills in elderly meals?
    d) releasing prisoners?

    How low will they go?

Democrats are already being told by NBC to vote illegally multiple times and buy off voters. (Schultz and Matthews quotes)

We need every Private Investigator watching out for SEIU, ACORN, Black Panthers and all the rest of the strong armed thugs and criminals.

    Citizens rise!

  21. Also, that SEIU guy said Coakley’s people paid him $50 to stand there holding her campaign sign…

…but even HE was voting for Scott Brown !!

    I am soooooooo lovin’ this!

  22. I can’t find verification that any criminal complaint has been filed and I am starting to have suspicions that rumors of these complaints are meant to have a negative impact on the Brown campaign.
    Verify before posting.

  23. Finally a man with some balls!!!!!Go get ‘em Scott!!!!!

  24. Martha’s so entertaining! She has to be the worst candidate evah!!! I’m having a hard time keeping the popcorn in stock. Hollywood couldn’t write a better script of a political campaign crashing and burning. I can’t wait to cast my vote for Scott Brown on Tuesday!!

  25. MSNBC (a.k.a The Obama News Network) is cracking up. Kelly O’Donnell on The Ed Show has this to say: “What we`ve got to figure out is whether all the talk we`re doing about this race will fire up Democrats to try to prevent a loss, a stunning loss, really, if it were to happen.” Don’t you just love the journalistic objectivity?
    http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2010/01/16/kelly-odonnell-hopes-all-talk-we-re-doing-about-race-will-fire-democr

Ed Schultz of The Ed Show:

“I think it`s just an unbelievable scenario that`s playing out and don`t kid yourselves, folks, this could derail the rest of the Obama agenda for 2010 and beyond,” Schultz told his “Ed Show” audience.

“The way the political winds are turning right now is absolutely amazing,” he continued.

“If the tea party-endorsed candidate nabs Ted Kennedy`s seat in Massachusetts it`s the end of change as we know it” (My emphasis).
    http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2010/01/16/ed-schultz-brown-win-tuesday-end-change-we-know-it

But Schultz gets even worse: I tell you what, if I lived in Massachusetts, I’d try to vote ten times. I don’t know if they’d let me or not, but I’d try to. Yeah, that’s right, I’d cheat to keep these bastards out. I would. ‘Cause that’s exactly what they are.
    http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2010/01/16/ed-schultz-if-i-lived-massachusetts-i-d-vote-10-times-id-cheat-keep-t

Then there is this incredible remark from Chris Matthews: “You know in the old days…if the Democrats faced this kind of a disaster in the works, you`d go back to your ones, the people you were sure are going to vote Democrat, and you`d make sure they got to the polling place,” Matthews told NBC’s Chuck Todd on Friday’s “Hardball.”

“You`d get them lunch, you`d get them a car. You`d make sure they got there, and in some cases you`d be buying people to get them,” he continued. “But I hear talking to somebody today there aren`t people up there in Massachusetts like that anymore”
    http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2010/01/16/chris-matthews-worries-there-arent-democrat-votes-buy-massachusetts-t

  26. What I want to see is this exposed both in The Boston Globe and The Boston Herald in their Sun. editions. Then WSB should broadcast it on the hour. Scott ought to have a press conference denouncing this type of SEIU fraud and thuggery. Every MSM outlet should be flooded by letters, email, calls to expose Coakley, the DEMS and Obama campaigning with this travesty in their hands of corruption.

  27. Since this mailer was directed at women, especially affluent women, maybe Brown should cut a commercial with his daughters and ask…Does anyone really believe that if something, anything, tragic happened to either of my daughters, I wouldn’t want whatever medical attention they might require?

He needs to slam Coakley on this now.

  28. SOme poor democrat higher up is goin’ ta jail. Sniff.

  29. Jim, as a aside; take Irish Pennents off your link list, it links to porn links.

  30. maybe they should have clarified the ad…..

    rape or rape-rape.

coakley appears more pathetic by the minute.

    GO BROWN GO!!!!!!

  31. From a MA resident- don’t be fooled. Timing is everything. The MA Democrats know what they did is illegal. All of the legal action occurred today. Obama is in town Sunday. Monday is a holiday (MLK Day). The election is Tuesday, and the apologies start on Wednesday.

Been there..done that. MA politics as usual. It all depends upon whether the MA voters decide not to get fooled again.

  32. This is a thing that definitely should be done. That mailer made me sick to my stomach. It’s a lie and it’s dirty dirty politics (Chicago-style, even). I hope they throw the book at her for that one.

  33. Perhaps croakley would like to explain why so many rapes occurred on her watch as ag.

  34. “a report that a union backing rival Martha Coakley used state resources to urge workers to volunteer for Coakley’s campaign.”

Might this violate the Hatch Act if proven beyond a reasonable doubt? Somebody ought to take a look.

  35. The state law is unconstitutional. False speech is protected by the First Amendment. Brown can sue Coakley or the Democratic party for defamation. But a law prohibiting false speech especially in a political race is definitely unconstitutional. Brown’s lawyer should check Times v. Sullivan, one of many cases in which the Supreme Court ruled that there is no truth test for First Amendment protection. By the way, Times v. Sullivan was a landmark case that advanced the cause of Free Speech. Brown is getting mistaken legal advice.

  36. You know, the biggest issue I have with the Demo-rat ad is… there were almost 1,800 rape cases in little Mass. in 2008?

How the F is that possible?!

The ad is a scandal, no doubt. But… what are the Demo-rats doing about this amount of rapes? Nothing? Tell the women “oh, you provoked it”? I mean, that’s how Dems tick, don’t they? It’s always the victim’s fault.

Before crying over the emergency contraception issue, I’d suggest doing something about the rape cases themselves. Like… hunt the criminals and punish them?

  37. Why would anyone vote for a woman that purposely kept people in prison, knowing full well they were innocent, just to further her career? I find her despicable.

  38. Beck has a tape of the SEIU bragging about all the illegals in their membership – therefore, using SEIU money for the campaign is illegal!
