Well, Halleluiah! Barack Obama says he wants to cut the spiraling national deficit.
Barack Obama tripled the national deficit last year.
This year Barack Obama is on track to nearly quadruple Bush’s 2008 budget deficit.

But don’t worry.
Barack Obama called for a task force today to come up with a plan to curb his spiraling budget deficits.
He’s serious.
Breitbart reported:
President Barack Obama has endorsed a bipartisan plan to name a special task force charged with coming up with a plan to curb the spiraling budget deficit.
The bipartisan 18-member panel would study the issue for much of the year and report a deficit reduction blueprint after the November elections that would be voted on before the new Congress convenes next year.
Unlike a plan tentatively endorsed on Tuesday by the White House and Capitol Hill Democrats, the new task force would have to be approved by Congress, where there’s lots of opposition.
Here’s an idea…
If Obama really wanted to cut deficits he would eliminate the rest of the failed Stimulus package spending that is slated for this year and beyond.
Over $236 billion is scheduled to be spent this year alone.

(Washington Post graphic)
If Barack Obama and democrats were really serious about cutting the national deficit they could admit that the Stimulus bill was a failure and cancel this year’s spending. But then again, Obama would really have to be serious about cutting the deficit.

I do hope everyone realizes that when he says “battle spending,” he really means “make it look like I’m doing something while I go on spending like a drunken, drunken heiress.”
Sort of like what he did with the “jobs summit.” Looks, but nothing near results.

I put this on the Breitbart page, I’ll put it here too……
So then, our Dictator In Training Pants- the guy who’s exponentially increased spending from the levels of every POTUS in history – is endorsing some sort of ‘whatever’ to NOT tell him that HE’S THE ONE who’s exponentially increased spending from the levels of every POTUS in history and with the pure evil within his administration caused the spiraling deficit that has basically already bankrupted our nation for the next few generations ; it’s just that nobody realizes it yet because the people and the existing economic engine in our nation refuse to give in to Marxism.
This commission will be so unbiased and objective, that everything will be certified as GWB’s fault.
Sounds about right, eh ?

HMMM a “task Force” huh. I’m wondering if this is why Sen “Weeping George” Voinovich was meeting with the Precedent last week.
MissTammy commented:
So does this mean that he can just cut back by half on what he has already planned on spending, and then turn around and claim he slashed spending by half?
Do you think he realizes that if he had done this straight out of the gate, he could have done anything else he wanted and easily won re-election to boot?
justpassingthrough commented:
So what’s his goal this time, $100,235,190.38?

Oh no, this is about sybolism over substance. Find someone to pin this mess on (Bush).
Trim a little fat (Military spending). Weaken the country further so the weakened country comes begging for your progressive help.
Better have lots of food, water, energy and bullets.

I’m disappointed. I really have a hankering for another czar or two. Why didn’t he just appoint a Anti-Spendthrift Czar. I know he’s been considering a Tax Increase Czar.
Dell commented:
Militant Conservative – you beat for to the punch.
And I’m thinking a massive 25% reduction in defense spending (even with the thousand or so porkulus items that mysteriously hitched themselves to the defense appropriation bill!) is definitely in order. That’s the figure Bonnie Fwank proposed a couple of months ago and I’m thinking that’s the fraud’s starting point. Of course the pork spending won’t be cut….just the things the military needs.
ogee commented:
Uh, right. Tell me another lie. He’s hiring a huge team at a huge expense to figure out how to stop spending? All together now…1…2…3…HE HAS NO CLUE. Um, and not to mention that he and his wife are the biggest spenders on the Government welfare rolls spending massive amounts on their trips, parties, pissa excursions and other frivolous items while creating a massive carbon footprint. He’s lieing again. He doesn’t want to restore jobs or the economy. He wants us on our knees. He is such a freakin liar. He thinks if he says something that makes it true. He’s mentally ill. Throw the bum out!
wanumba commented:
Yeah. They are going to declare with their new “approach” that the military isn’t necessary. A civilian security force is, but seems there’s stimulus money aplenty to start that up. Just need to cut down the competitor first.
chillguy33 commented:
Give me a break. Obama will cut any spending that does not purchase a vote to re-elect – OBAMA!
Will spending at ACORN be cut?
You have been listening to too many journalists.
bill-tb commented:
OK, that was funny, just the title is enough to make you giggle.
Meanwhile, who actually believes he means it. He could cut the funds for the stupid porkulus, put the TARP funds back into the treasury, like right away … Couldn’t he.
Hedgehog commented:
This is just another taffy pull. The Republicans should refuse to participate in this charade. Instead they should formulate specific proposals and put them on the table BEFORE THE ELECTION. Instead of going through this bogus commission, the Republicans should be introducing bills to eliminate spending authorities. Let the Dems vote them down and go on record. Going through the commission only avoids confrontation. Now is the time to keep the pressure on. Hold them accountable for what they’ve done. Keep this in the public eye. Do not let them bury their criminal contempt of the will of the people behind some bogus commission.
Don Rodrigo commented:
Let’s see: an 18-person ‘task force’ to take over the responsibilities that belong to the 535 members of Congress?
Remember, this is not a commission, but a group that will make enforceable budget policy. I don’t remember that being in the Constitution anywh . . . . .
Oh wait . . . . Constitution? HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!
Robert commented:
This idea came out of Congress, and allows them to dodge the responsibility of making, and facing the consequences, of budget cuts. Now, they can just point to the commision and say that they had no choice.
In other words, they can’t do their job.

This “commission” is not nearly as benign as the administration has made it out to be.
The Foundry has been following its development for awhile: see “Please! No White House Lame Duck Commission” and “Morning Bell: A Nothing Burger, A Fig Leaf, and a Commission On the Side”.
Here’s an exerpt from “Lame Duck” — After much congressional handwringing over what budget process reform to attach to a must-pass increase in the debt ceiling, support for the legislative proposal crafted by Senate Budget Committee leaders Kent Conrad (D-ND) and Judd Gregg (R-NH) has crumbled. It fell apart as many members recognized two political facts of life. One is that it would inevitably lead to tax increases. The other, reinforced by the Massachusetts election, is that Americans are in no mood for a back-room, members-only commission that rushes its plan through Congress just after the November election. The White House solution to the impasse? Surprise β an executive commission to do the same thing. Democratic leaders met with Vice President Joe Biden reportedly have struck a deal that would look much like the Conrad-Gregg proposal except that it would be set up by the White House. Senator Gregg condemned the White House attempted end run. βItβs a fraud among anyone interested in fiscal responsibility to claim that an executive order could structure something that would actually lead to action,β Gregg told The Washington Post.

Dougf commented:
I guarantee you that NO-ONE in Washington is serious about not spending money or reducing the deficit. There is no advantage to them at all.
And exactly how would they do that even if they were serious ? Do you honestly believe that there is a will to tell the people that :
A. You can’t get the services you think you are entitled to because we don’t have any money ?
B. We can’t possibly even think about any new programs unless we cancel or cut back some existing programs ?
C. The military is sucking up too much of the available revenue and we must be EXTREMELY careful to spend this money wisely. This would impact on all those projects which might well not be required but serve as pork projects for a LOT of Congress-critters.
Bottom Line Here: The USA is and has been for decades, living beyond its means. Like a drunken sailor running thru his cash and borrowing from all his buddies so that his pay for the next decade is already promised as repayment. You can blame this on Obama and I am good with that, but when he is gone and the problems remain —- What Then ?
Do you see anyone who will stand up and say —- We Are Broke !!
I don’t.

Fletcher picking up phone and shouting: “Stop breaking the law, a**hole!”
“Stop spending so much, a**hole.”
That would be the obvious conclusion of any task force
Rich commented:
Canceling the rest of the stimulus would be worthwhile for the Republicans because Obama plans to spend the rest of it just before the 2010 elections.
Just watch.
Brendon Carr commented:
We’ve got a huge problem ahead of us. It’s not all Obama’s fault, although that jackass is certainly doing everything he can to make it worse.
Right now, Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare constitute over 50% of all Federal spending, and are deemed to be “entitlements” which cannot be touched. So spending cuts have to concentrated on the other half of the budget where all the other Federal departments live. Trouble is, those departments live there with the part of the budget that goes to servicing the accrued Federal debt — which I think is something like 12% of the entire Federal budget, thanks to record-low interest rates on borrowing.
Obama’s 2010 budget calls for $3.6 trillion in spending, with $1.7 billion of that projected to be borrowed money. That’s 47.2% of all Federal spending as deficit spending.
So at the end of the day, even if Uncle Sam closes up the entire Federal government — Defense, State, Justice, Homeland Security, Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, Education, Energy, all of it — and just pays for Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid as they exist now (i.e., without expanding the programs as called for by Obamacare) and the interest on accrued Federal debt, we cannot close the budget gap and bring the budget back into balance without economic growth.
Does anyone think the Obama economic plan will promote growth? And are we really going to close up the entire Federal government?
spayandneuter commented:
I still say, put Suze Orman in charge of the checkbook, she’ll whip that budget into shape!

I can’t believe anyone would take this seriously (not that anyone here is). This is nothing more than cover for Obama while he racks up record deficits.
Read the fine print: This commission won’t report on anything until early next year. That’s right 2011. By that time we’ll have on the books another record deficit for 2010 and the 2011 budget will already be completed, likely with more record deficit spending. Essentially this commission is only going to make a recommendation for the 2012 budget which is conveniently election year.
Can anyone imagine working for a company that was going bankrupt and telling their boss they’d have a budget proposal to fix things ready in two years?

Obama is a real piece of work. It’s as if he had maxed out all of his credit cards, taken out multiple mortgages on his house, borrowed every dime he could from friends, family, and loan sharks….and then hopped on a plane to Vegas in the supreme confidence he was going to score big at the craps tables. “Trust me, baby, I know what I’m doing. It’s a sure thing.”
