Tiger Woods announced today that he would take an indefinite leave from golf to work on his marriage.
The AP reported:

Tiger Woods said Friday he is taking an indefinite leave from golf to work on saving his marriage, using the word “infidelity” for the first time in a statement posted on his Web site.

“After much soul searching, I have decided to take an indefinite break from professional golf,” Woods said. “I need to focus my attention on being a better husband, father, and person.”

Woods and his wife, Elin, have been married five years and have a 2-year-old daughter and 10-month-old son.

The announcement came two weeks after a car accident set in motion a shocking downfall for the world’s No. 1 player, and included sordid allegations of numerous extramarital affairs. One woman even shared a voice mail she said Woods left her two nights before his Nov. 27 accident.

  1. Oh yeah…..they’ll work it out.
His wife would have to be a chump to stay with him.

  2. Clearly the highest paid PR team wrote that apology, but at least he apologized, when Bill Clinton waged his finger, lied, tried to rig his own sexual harassment case, etc.

Noting, isn’t it a tragedy his wife would put up with this pathetic behavior? Just for the money? Or is it really for the kids?

I caught a Democratic Pundit on TV, trying to use Tiger’s folly, as an example to diminish the malfeasance of a number of Democrats including Spitzer and Clinton. However, this type of behavior is central to the honesty and trust issue, and once that is ruined, no one should be given any power in Our Government.

Also, Hillary Clinton always comes to mind in addressing these matters, as one of the biggest enablers of all time.

  3. Could Tiger take Obama with him.

  4. Slow news?

  5. Whoa… for a few seconds the site kind of morphed on my new laptop……. Looked like the story was “Obama says Tiger Woods is a National Security issue because of climate change”.

Must be the 5 bars on the 3G thing doin’ it.

    ;-)

  6. Maybe he figured out that he may very well lose everything he loves the most, because of his foolishness.

He’s good-looking, rich, and famous. Trashy women throw themselves at men who have a lot less going for them than Tiger has. And some of them may have done it with the hope of destroying his marriage and replacing his wife.

I wish him, his wife, and their children well. And the women who sold their stories, I wish them
    anonymity.

  7. Valerie, I agree with you sentiments but want to add that there has already been far too much coverage of this as it is. The MSM is too cowardly to look at what important stuff is going on in the world, so they poke at Tiger Wood’s affair(s).

  8. Good – can we move on to MORE IMPORTANT extramarital affairs like Max Baucas and his “raise” for his girlfriend, his “exploratory” fact finding trip to South Africa with her and his unsolicited nomination of her for an attorney general job?????

  9. OT

Palin makes a surprise visit to the “Tonight Show”. Listen to the crowd!

  10. Valerie and Rhoda – great posts. I’m with you – this young family needs its privacy.

  11. OK, let’s get back to the real issues – like how our country is being served by a safe schools czar who supports teaching kids fisting and pissing each other. Or how about the healthcare disaster looming on the horizon? Or how about climategate?
Boy, the White House sticking phony Congressional districts in for their jobs creation site sure fell out of the news quick.

  12. Tiger Woods is an adulterer whose WORD means NOTHING.
    He has no character.
    He’s a golfer. Big whoop!

If a woman had slept with this many people behind her husband’s back she’d be called a whore.
    Tiger Woods is a whore.

I hope he can restore his relationship with his family, but he should have thought about that before he betrayed his wife and became Slut Boy.
    I don’t give a s^^t about his golf game.
Golf is a GAME, and his family is real.
Maybe shame will make him realize that he has gone down the wrong, selfish path.

And if he is a REAL man, he may redeem himself with his family.

  13. I’m with Valerie, Rhoda and jerseygma, this is none of my business and I wish the Woods family the best.
Liberals and the press have no principles, but why do some conservatives believe that success disqualifies someone from the golden rule?

  14. I read this blog for more insightful stuff than this. From a libertarian point of view, leave two adults alone to work things out whichever way they feel best. Wasting time on this while socialists are working to destroy the fabric of our constitution and curtail the rights of hundreds of millions of individuals is like worrying about which shoes you’ll be wearing at your funeral.

  15. I am so sad that Tiger is stopping playing. While his personal problems are serious, his play and poise on the course is why I like him. Not because I expected him to have a fairy tale marriage.

Leave him alone. There are plenty of real battle to fight. Tiger needs to fight this one himself.

  16. Dunno. Daughter heard Woods was quitting golf “for a while.” Didn’t know why. Told her his wife found out he was cheating on her and she let him have it, chasing him out of the house with a golf club or some such. Daughter was still laughing … and cheering on the WIFE.

Righteous anger is always correct. Who respects Hillary for plastering over the problem with Bill? But Miss Elin? What wuss reporter is going to DARE get close enough to ask her anything tacky and intrusive that’ll get her steamed?

The Mr and Mrs Woods might actually have a real chance to patch things up. He knows she’s mad, he’s scared of her now and he knows “phony” won’t cut it.
That’s waay better than pretending everything is fine.

  17. And meanwhile, we can all move on to this criminal acitivity of Baucus using taxpayer money for his girlfriend. The Democrat Mayor of Phoenix has a very similar problem, btw… funny how his political party affiliation had to be researched as it was omitted.

  18. I certainly want what’s best for them — and I pray that they can reconcile with a degree of equanimity.

However, what he did was simply inexcusable. I can understand a failing or two, but the “indiscretions” are slowly moving in the realm of the unbelievable (if we’re not there already).

I have to admit it’s going to be very difficult for her to let the past go.

  19. Well, he at least needs to take enough time off to get a club or two replaced . . .

The dirty little secret which is being exposed isn’t just about Tiger, it’s about the whole world of pro athletes and other celebrities who visit these “clubs” and their “VIP rooms,” which are well-stocked with willing women of their personal physical preferences. Not hookers, just what might be considered rock groupies, “party girls” who will generally keep their mouths shut for the privilege of the free party and a fun night with a star.

Tiger’s house isn’t the only one to be rocked if this story has any legs.

  20. Unlike some, I find these incidents instructive about our society. There is extreme sexuality being pushed on us from all sides. Kevin Jennings comes to mind. Yet such affairs, when discovered, require screaming headlines, saturation coverage and much discussion as if a sin has been committed.

Why? Because someone wouldn’t take their vows seriously?

Why should they? God, the Bible and the Ten Commandments have been kicked to the curb of our lives. What, besides our own transient beliefs, would make it wrong to act on these alluring pleasures?

Where is the moral compass to point when True North has been removed?

  21. They couldn’t fix the sex scandal but they sure fixed the DUI request by the FPH officer, didn’t they?

  22. Frank: If you really feel this is a waste of time, why are you in here posting comments. This story should be no more of a distraction from more important news stories than chewing bubblegum is to walking.

  23. Well, maybe Tiger can become the new Safe Schools Czar and teach the kiddies about hetero perversion, to balance out the queer kink.

  24. Reports are that since Elin grew up in a broken home, she’s determined that her children have their father at home. And, that she is not all that interested in buying expensive things. So it appears that she really is doing it for the kids, and not for the additional money she may get by sticking around a few more years. If she split now with the kids, she would still get hefty child-support payments anyway.

  25. Tiger’s **** has been in more strange holes than you wili find on any golf course. Elin is crazy if she ever lets him touch her again.

  26. RR said: “I can understand a failing or two …”

Really? How many is too many? When does adultery cross the line from understandable to unacceptable?

Once is too many times in my book (and my DH says the same to me.) Breaking trust in this most fundamental of vows creates an unbreachable gulf in a marriage – it breaks the marriage.

She may stay with him for the money, but she will never trust him again. Nice going, Tiger!

  27. Billionaire athlete cheats on trophy wife. Really? I’m shocked. This does matter to a society that is hell bent on finding an example of virtue and goodness. Money and talent do not equal virtue. It never has.

Tiger woods is a brand, not a person. Insert Coca-Cola or Harley-Davidson. Eldrick is a person. Do you think we will ever learn the difference? The mistake of Idol worship was explained to us long ago in the old testament.

My Father in law raised 6 kids during hard economic times by working three crappy part time jobs. He never quit, cheated on his wife, abused his family or complained. He is my hero, my example of virtue.

Thanks Eldrick for slapping Americans and our Idol worshipping culture. Thanks for another wake-up call. We needed it.

  28. Tiger Woods situation is a perfect example of why relative morality doesn’t work. He has a beautiful wife, beautiful kids, and had a fantastic career – and jeopardized it all for what Christians call sin. There are no “victimless” sins.

However, all things are possible with God. I hope Tiger and his family turn to Him. Their marriage and even his career can be healed.

I hope America learns the right lesson from this – that there IS absolute morality and that it is given to us by God.

I wish Tiger and his family the best.
