President Obama slammed the insurance industry today in his latest attack on private industry.
The Hill reported:

As the Senate prepares for a final round of votes on its healthcare reform bill, President Barack Obama chastised the insurance industry for its lobbying against the legislation.

In his weekly address Saturday, Obama extolled the virtues of the bill for the various protections it would provide for Americans in their health insurance coverage. He also called for an up and down vote on the legislation. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has struggled to find the necessary 60 votes to beat back a filibuster, which Obama blamed on the insurance companies’ heavy lobbying.

“They’re spending millions of dollars to kill health insurance reform, just like they’ve done so many times before. They want to preserve a system that works better for the insurance industry than it does for the American people,” Obama said in his address.

For the record… Congressional raises topped insurance company profits last year.

And, the average pay for federal workers is $71K per year while the average pay in the private sector is $40K per year.

  1. State legislatures need to provide guidance to thier Senators:

    1) No new taxes

    2) No additional intrusion into the Doctor Patien Relationship

    3) No cuts to Medicare

    4) No mandate to purchase insurance

    5) No new bureaucracy

Senators need to be told that they are explicity going against thier states wishes and if a legislature fails to act then let’s put the state legilatures in play

  2. Strange that based on recent poll numbers more people like the health insurance industry than like Obama. So actually, when he says:

They want to preserve a system that works better for the insurance industry than it does for the American people,” Obama said in his address.

In truth, the insurance industry works better for the American people than does the President.

  3. Tell me, Mr. President, who is the Dem’s health care bill going to to work better for?

And tell me why, if private insurance is so awful, millions of Americans are voluntarily paying into it. Yes, it has its problems, and no we can’t ever look to insurance companies as the sole answer to our health needs. But you are trying to destroy health care providers from your bully pulpit. You are trying to destroy them because they dare speak their opinion on your bad policies … policies that will undeniably make their jobs impossible, or nearly so. And that is inexcusable. You have replaced hope and change with threats and bribes, while you bow before tyrants and surround yourself with pedophiles, terrorists, Marxists, fraudulent scientists, and tax evaders. You, Mr. President, deserve nothing less than a legacy of infamy. Your removal from office is what will work best for the American people.

  4. What Al-Queda couldn’t do the congress finally will end up doing. They will finish off the killing of America. This will bankrupt America beyond repair. On the bright side we might all end up with no jobs, but at least all Americans (including the illegals) will have a “good” health plan “envy of the world”.

  5. This is a false argument being presented by Obama…the insurance and pharmaceutical companies stand to gain billions from the passage of this monster of bill…this argument is only being made to gain “leftist” support…no one should buy into anything the administration is saying…this bill is a piece of crap and stinks to high heaven….

Unions, illegal aliens, college kids who don’t need ongoing health care, inner city blacks a la Detroit, Democrats in general, it’s not about health care but getting people to vote Democrat. And over the precipice America goes.

  7. Even the unions are starting to turn against this horrendous bill.

Yeah, I remember my college days, when I laughed at the fact that my school offered a health insurance policy. In fact, my graduate school REQUIRED us to pay into their insurance policy. What a silly thing to do. I didn’t want insurance and I didn’t need it. Unfortunately, Obama is exploiting these healthy kids by trying to cast them as victims.
