The son of a prominent Nigerian banker was arrested for the attempted terror attack.

Alhaji Umaru Mutallab, former chairman off Nigeria’s First Bank, was said to be worried about his son’s increasingly ‘extreme’ religious views, a Nigerian newspaper reported. (New York Daily News)

All Africa reported, via Free Republic:

The young man, who yesterday night attempted to ignite an explosive device aboard a Delta Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit, Michigan in the United States has been identified as Abdul Farouk Umar Abdulmutallab, the 23-year-old son of Alhaji Umaru Mutallab, former First Bank chairman. Mutallab, a former minister and prominent banker recently retired from the bank’s board.

The older Mutallab, as at the time of filing this report, had just left his Katsina hometown for Abuja to speak with security agencies, family sources say. According to the family members, Mutallab has been uncomfortable with the boy’s extreme religious views and had six months ago reported his activities to United States’ Embassy, Abuja and Nigerian security agencies.

The older Mutallab was said to be devastated on hearing the news of Abdul Farouk’s attempted bombing arrest. A source close to him said he was surprised that after his reports to the US authorities, the young man was allowed to travel to the United States.

The family home of the Mutallabs in Central London, is currently being searched by men of the Metropolitan Police. THISDAY checks reveal that the suspect, Abdulfarouk Umar Muttalab who is an engineering student at the University College, London had been noted for his extreme views on religion since his secondary school days at the British International School, Lome, Togo.

At the secondary school, he was known for preaching about Islam to his schoolmates and he was popularly called “Alfa”, a local coinage for Islamic scholar. After his secondary school, the young man, family sources said went to University College London to study engineering and later relocated to Egypt, and then Dubai. While in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, he declared to his family members that he did not want to have anything to do with any of them again.

His father, Muttalab is a regular visitor to the US where he visits for medical check up and holidays. He is expected to issue a statement later today.

This is the kind of thing that is making me crazy and angry. People report things to authorities all of the time, only to be ignored. Is there anyone with 1/2 a brain and common sense that takes terrorism seriously in this country. Maybe they need an attack at the United States Capitol, White House or Supreme Court to wake these arrogant bunch up. They just damnit don’t get it.

The FBI was warned about several students taking flying lessons, who only wanted to learn to take off and land, prior to 9/11, and the person who warned them was blown off.

They had warnings about the Ft. Hood terrorist and blew everything off.

We have been warning them about Obama not being an American, and we are blown off.

I’ve come to the conclusion that these people just think it will never happen to them, they feel too damn safe, and they just don’t take it seriously. Damn them, I hope they are the bullseye for the next one, them and the lying so called journalists at the likes of NBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, MSNBC. They think, it will never touch them, so they just go on, as if the whole world is lollipops and roses. They just make me sick anymore.

Thank God for places like this to come and get real, truthful news. Not the sugar coated crap being spewed by a bunch of liars, and pc people with camera’s in their faces at NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, and personally I think FOX has failed on Obama’s eligibility issue. They just call him President Obama like he is no different than any other we’ve had, and they don’t want to admit that he isn’t. He is Indonesian, and a fraud. I pray for the day he is exposed for what he really is, and not the creation of the pc people with the camera’s, just like Tiger Woods. I can think for myself, I know this guy isn’t American, regardless of what the drones with the camera’s are saying about him. If it doesn’t feel right, it isn’t, that simple. Looking and listening to Obama is no different than listening to any other sociopath, Bundy, Peterson, or Jim Jones to name a few, there is just something smarmy and not right about their demeanor. My God given instinct knows what the pc people aren’t saying.

  2. So we ignored the warnings about this one too. Tell me why again we need a TSA?

WTF are our security agencies doing?

  3. We have the TSA to get American’s accustomed to submitting to government control. Its security theater.

There is no barrier that can not be overcome by a determined foe. The TSA and other control regime’s like gun control FAIL because only the law abiding comply. These regimes weaken the good guys ability to respond.

  4. Liberals claim that poverty is the real motive for “radical Islam” is a premise that should have no credulity .A son ofprivilege has a”higher calling” and it is not the redistribution of wealth.

[The passenger who tacked a suspected terrorist Northwest Airlines flight 235 said Saturday he’s “happy” to be alive.

Jasper Schuringa (right), a video director and producer from Amsterdam, told CNN how helped the cabin crew to subdue Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the 23-year-old who reportedly ignited a small explosive device on on board the plane Friday as it prepared to land in Detroit.

Schuringa said he heard a sound that reminded him of a firecracker and someone yelling, “Fire! Fire!”

But he was only sure something was wrong when he saw smoke. Abdulmutallab’s pants were open and he was holding a burning object between his legs.

“I pulled the object from him and tried to extinguish the fire with my hands and threw it away,” Schuringa said.

He said he screamed for water and pulled Abdulmutallab out of his seat and dragged him to the front of the plane.

Schuringa told CNN that Abdulmutallab seemed out of it and “was staring into nothing.”

To ensure Abdulmutalla did not have other explosives on his body, Schuringa stripped off his clothes. He then handcuffed the alleged attacker with the help of a crew member.

Schuringa said the other passengers applauded as he returned to his seat.]

    Thank You JS!! (thumbsup)

  7. WTF are our security agencies doing?

    Drawing paychecks, basically.

  8. How many more of this type of terror attempts will it take? Obama wont attend Christmas devotions, but has no problem taking off shoes and kneeling on prayer rug with Muslims.

Wasn’t it Obama that declared this a muslin nation?

Simple math should tell us 2+2= Non-Christian. We should all be on notice that attacks will increase with non action from White House.

This is no way to live, we need this guy gone, he’s dangerous to our well being!

Has the PRETEND PRESIDENT “made himself CLEAR” yet?
When a flaming Jet slams into an office tower in Detroit Obama pontificate in Farsi.

  12. I just hope Jasper Schuringa isn’t sued by the terrorist for using excessive force. That’s how the justice system works in America. True Americans applaud Jasper for his heroism but the US government frowns on civilians taking the law into their own hands.

The US justice system have still not charged the suspect because they are debating if a terrorist act was actually committed. They are suspicious of his statements that he worked for Al Qaeda.

  14. I’m sure Obama does’nt want to jump to any conclusions. This may not be terrorism, it may just have been that the poor unfortunate islamonutbag could’nt read the no smoking sign.

  15. It was the people on the plane, not our government, that prevented this from being a major terrorist attack.

What is wrong with this picture?

The government’s priority is now to be sure that no terrorists go without their full rights and are not offended in some way.

  16. This story’s got it all:
    muslim: “Abdul Farouk Umar Abdulmutallab”
    islam extremist: “extreme religious views”
bank connections: “[father] former First Bank chairman”
    [muslim] money: $2.5 million apartment
security failure: “surprised that after his reports to the US authorities, the young man was allowed to travel to the United States”
healthcare: “[father] is a regular visitor to the US where he visits for medical check up”

    let’s roll: Jasper Schuringa

When will the rest of us “let’s roll”???
    .

  17. What will be next in the pre-flight security screening? Soon to lose our dignity as well as our liberties. Ahhhh, that hopenchange!

  18. Obama says to not jump to conclusions. The passengers could have mis spoken.
The airline could have filed a false report.
It could have been global warming.
It may not have been a Muslim. He may not have been a terrorist.

  19. Shame the passengers didn’t beat him to death!

  20. Hi All,

    Could anyone answer me this…
Why did Obama Call this Latest Plane attack Terrorism.? Before we know anything. Isn’t this a rush to Judgment.?

Because after the Fort Hood Terrorist Attack, Obama caution us Not to Rush to Judgment..

    mixture of flashback/flashforward articles:

    Dr. M. Zuhdi Jasser

[JHB: And finally, what would you most like to see our
next President accomplish in terms of the Islamist threat?

ZJ: I would like to see our next President have the courage to identify this as a war against militant Islamism and not a war against terror; to create a strategy, a national strategy to defeat political Islam. And identify it as a political movement. Consistently making it clear that this is not a quarrel with the personal faith of individual Muslims, but it is a quarrel with those who believe that theocracy is better than liberal democracy. It'll be tough and the President will get some blowback. But it's like the treatment of cancer: patients treated with chemo sometimes get sicker before they get better.

As a Muslim I'll tell you the reason I've formed this organization [AIFD] is that I refuse to hand over the mantle of religion to the Islamists. It’s not theirs and it’s not mine either. It’s God’s – just as it is for other faiths.

Similarly, the President shouldn’t hand over the mantle to Islamists who cloak their politics in religion. And there needs to be a continuum of engagement. It should be clear that there is only one sort of Muslim we will openly support: the liberty-minded Muslims who believe in freedom and liberty for all faiths, and in the separation of religion and politics. And all the rest we should critically engage, from al Qaeda, whom we’ll engage on the battlefield, to the dictatorships like Ahmadinejad’s [in Iran] to the monarchies like Saudi Arabia – which in some ways is the primary cancer cell because they promote Wahhabism and yet they are working with us against al Qaeda.

At AIFD, we’ve been talking about actually handing out grades: al Qaeda and Iran would get Fs; Saudi Arabia and Pakistan would get D-minuses; the Ds are Egypt and other dictatorships; the Cs of the world such as Morocco, Yemen, Jordan and some of the monarchies that don’t necessarily have democracies, but are working with us and need to evolve.]

more here; here; here and here..

[Lopez: What’s the biggest challenge Muslims in America face?

Jasser: I’ll first tell you what it is not- it’s not Islamophobia. If anyone is to blame for the existence of the concept of Islamophobia, if it even exists, it is Muslims who have been unable to articulate a manifestation of Islam which is free of a political state which threatens the sovereignty of the states in which Muslims reside. I don’t subscribe to the existence of the notion of Islamophobia because I believe that we are in just the beginning of a global conflict of political ideologies (Islamism vs. Americanism), and the conflation of “Islamophobia” is intentional by Islamists to deflect Americans and the free world from the necessary debate of political ideologies.]

[Update 3: ABC News reports “Investigators: Northwest Bomb Plot Planned by al-Qaeda in Yemen. Officials Say Bomb Materials Sewn Into Suspect’s Underwear by Top Terror Bomb Maker”:

The plot to blow up an American passenger jet over Detroit was organized and launched by al-Qaeda leaders in Yemen who apparently sewed bomb materials into the suspect’s underwear before sending him on his mission, federal authorities tell ABC News.

Investigators say the suspect had more than 80 grams of PETN, a compound related to nitro-glycerin used by the military. The so-called shoe bomber, Richard Reid, had only about 50 grams kin his failed attempt in 2001 to blow up a U.S.-bound jet. Yesterday’s bomb failed because the detonator may have been too small or was not in “proper contact” with the explosive material, investigators told ABC News.

Investigators say the suspect, Abdul Farouk Umar Abdulmutallab, a 23-year old Nigerian student whose birthday was last Tuesday, has provided detailed information about his recruitment and training for
what was supposed to be a Christmas Day suicide attack.

According to the authorities, Abdulmutallab says he made contact via
the internet with a radical imam in Yemen who then connected him with al-Qaeda leaders in a village north of the country’s capital, Sanaa.

Authorities say they do not yet know if the imam was the same one who was in contact with Maj. Nidal Hasan prior to his alleged attack on soldiers at Fort Hood last month. American-born Anwar Awlaki has lived in Yemen since 2002 and is considered a major recruiter for al-Qaeda by U.S. authorities. He survived a U.S.-backed air strike earlier this week.

The suspect in the Northwest Airlines attack told FBI agents he lived with the al-Qaeda leader in Yemen for about a month and was not allowed to leave as he was trained in what to do and how to do it, authorities said.

At some point, according to the account, Abdulmutallab said he was joined by a Saudi citizen whom he described as an al-Qaeda bomb maker.]

[This time the last line of defense worked. Next time, the paradise-seeking jihadist might get lucky and find himself sitting next to, say, Charlie Sheen, too immersed in a lengthy treatise on how 9/11 was an inside job to notice the smoldering socks in the next seat; or to the same kind of nothing-to-see-here crowd who thought Major Hasan’s e-mails were “consistent with his research interests”.

    … and this:

The men eager to self-detonate on infidel airliners are not goatherds from the caves of Waziristan but educated middle-class Muslims who have had the most exposure to the western world and could be pulling down six-figure salaries almost anywhere on the planet. And don’t look to “assimilation” to work its magic, either. We’re witnessing a process of generational de-assimilation: In this family, yet again, the dad is an entirely assimilated member of the transnational elite.
