Former VP Dick Cheney was on with Sean Hannity tonight. During the interview Cheney said that, “Barack Obama does not share that belief of American exceptionalism that most of us believe in.”

Sean Hannity: You said about Barack Obama that he is projecting weakness to America’s enemies. Expand on that.

Dick Cheney: Well, I think most of us believe and most presidents believe and talk about the truly exceptional nature of America. Our history, where we come from, our belief in our Constitutional values and principles. Our advocacy for freedom and democracy and the fact that we’ve provided it for millions of people all over the globe and so unselfishly. There’s never been a nation like the United States of America in world history. And, yet when you have a president that goes around and bows to his host and proceeds to apologize profusely for the United States, I find that deeply disturbing. That says to me there’s a guy who doesn’t fully understand or share that view of American exceptionalism that I think most of us believe in.

  1. I miss Mr. Cheney a great deal. Now THERE’S a man. obowma (D) isn’t a man, he’s a coward.

  2. Obama, the red diaper baby, was given an entirely different view of America at his mother’s knee than most of us adhere to. He honestly sees this country as hopelessly flawed. America according to Obama needs to beg forgiveness for her monumental failings and innumerable flaws. Obama was taught from mom onward that America’s glass is half empty, and what’s in there is poison. He doesn’t see the goodness, the exceptionalism. Reverend Wright was only the last in a long line of America bashers to influence Obama. Being raised by America haters/communists leaves an indelible imprint…hence the name…”red diaper baby.”

  3. I miss Cheney too. Soft spoken, to the point, quick on rebuttal, doesn’t digress or get off topic. Oh, and likes sticking to the facts! That’s why the lib’s hate him.

  4. As usual, Cheney states the truth in one sentence.

Obama really isn’t an American. He isn’t one of us, he detests us, he doesn’t understand us.
I wish he was a dictator wannabe somewhere else in the world.

  5. I miss Cheney as well. Overall, I think he has been very restrained in his comments, and suspect he is just as upset as the rest of us with what is going on.

  6. #2: “He honestly sees this country as hopelessly flawed.”

If he were truly honest he would ask ‘Why do others see it differently than me?’

  7. Chaney nails it.

Of course, he’s only being nice. It would probably be cutting even closer to the truth to say that Obama is anti-American.
But we’ll never be able to make that one stick unless we catch him aiding and abetting a sworn enemy.

  8. The Real Clear Politics Obama job approval poll average is starting to close the first part of the dreaded X plot.

Too slowly but surely, Obama is going down.

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/president_obama_job_approval-1044.html

  9. Babsy, he’s surrounded himself with others who feel the same way. He probably feels that HE’S in the majority in his feelings.

  10. @Scott Jerome: But we’ll never be able to make that one stick unless we catch him aiding and abetting a sworn enemy.

You mean like the terrorists he is bringing to NY for trial?

  11. Cheney’s favorables will continue to climb as more Americans realize they were deceived by a campaign to smear him and Bush.

As the lies and incompetence of this administration are exposed, Obama’s numbers will continue to plummet.

Truth always wins out in the end.

  12. This Obama is the worst figure head in History. The cadre that is now in power has been aiming for this moment in time for decades. Roosevelt tried the same things as they are today, only the war got in his way.

Roosevelt kept the depression going for years past what it should have been with the same tactics as this crowd is doing. My point is that they have been evil for many many years, but just now coming to the light of day because they over played their hand. Do we have the time to stop this? I pray G-D that we do.

  13. Nice little trap Cheney set for Obama here. Because anything Cheney says drives the left — including many in the big media — bananas, there’s no way this comment doesn’t provoke a response from the usual gang of pundits, and possibly a question for Gibbs at Wednesday’s news conference.

But the problem is Obama’s core supporter on the left don’t believe in American exceptionalism, and don’t think Obama believes in it, either. But the smarter ones out there know it’s poison among the moderate swing voters for Barack to actually go out and say that, or for Gibbs to say that’s what the president believes

So if they reply to Cheney, it forces the more savvy pundits and the White House to either say they do believe in exceptionalism — another thing to tick off their liberal base — or try to ballet dance around the issue the way Obama tried to split the difference with his Afghan strategy, trying to neither commit nor deny the idea and ending up pleasing neither side.

  14. They are using the state to pander to people’s desire for security, enabling them to achieve a tipping point in control over our lives. They will then enact policies and taxes which will have the cumulative effect of limiting our individual exceptionalism.

  15. OK, first off, Obama doesn’t believe in anything American that’s positive, so move forward.

Here’s something to think of and as much as I really don’t like linking to another site from here, it’s just too much text to pop in as a stand-alone comment.

Actually, Kenny, obama said he’d been to 57 states SO FAR, with one more to go (58) and his handlers wouldn’t let him go to Alaska and Hawaii (60).

We sure got one hella buncha states, there!

    8>)

  17. Solaratov:

They didn’t let him go to Hawaii….. why ? Outstanding warrant ? Did he get asked to never come back ?

Alaska….. Must be the extreme cold…. or maybe it used too much carbon to get there and back. yeah, must be the reasons. Couldn’t be he’s so flipped out over “her”, that he didn’t want to be in the same state with “her”.

    Cheers !

  18. As a former leftist I can assure you that hating America and laughing at patriotism is a thing of great pride on the left.

  19. Marsh, #21,

Just curious. What changed your mind?

  20. John Edwards was right about two Americas (just wrong in his interpretation).

There’s the exceptional America that VP Cheney describes.

And the evil, arrogant America described by Dear Leader and his cadre of maggots and cockroaches from academia, labor, ACORN, the media, etc.

  21. How I, too, miss Cheney. He is a man of integrity and was never allowed to fight back when the media went after him. The more the media hates a particular politician, the more weight I give to his/her opinions.

  22. I don’t like people that think they are better then everyone else. I suspect that most of the rest of the world shares my sentiment. Just because we are America means we are always correct?

  23. GB,
    I am better than you!
    Get use to it.

  24. Yea GB lets walk around and no one is better than anyone. Communist Socialist, Fascists dictators are no worse than Democratically elected presidents. Yea, lets not keep score when we play ballgames, in fact lets not give grades, typical liberal dribble. And it does no one a bit of good with your idiotic philosophy. Not gonna go on and on cuz I could but im emitting too much carbon with my increased breathing since reading your idiotic post.

  25. where are my posts

  26. Barack Obama and Dick Cheney are globalist peices of filth! They both serve the same masters.

  27. GB,

Thanks for the typical libtard response. It’s obvious that like Obama you don’t know the first thing about the concept of American exceptionalism.

  28. America is controlled by global corporate interests. I believe in American exceptionalism but reject American imperialism. The sooner we break out of the false left vs. right paradigm and rid our nation of the institutional corruption that cripples us, the sooner we can re-establish our national soverignty and truly live out the vision of our forefathers!

  29. GB, who cares if the rest of the world likes us? Being liked is overrated. Besides, they all seem to like us when they’re in need.

  30. @Cowboy, ang, burt. America makes mistakes. Pretending that we don’t is absolute stupidity. Since you and some of your friends seem to think we are perfect I have to wonder what world you live in since it sure isn’t reality. American “exceptionalism” sounds a lot like pride cometh before the fall. I find it depressing that all you conservatives drag GB’s comment completely out of context. There was no mention of “not keeping score” just saying we are not perfect and we will make mistakes. Admitting you make mistakes and learning from them makes you better. You should also look up “ad hominem” its a logical fallacy and you all committed it. Which removed any credibility you have.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Same old drivel from a leftoid drone.

America is far from an “imperialist” nation. America is responsible for freeing more people worldwide from tyranny, at a greater cost in blood and treasure, than any nation in history. And without keeping the lands that we have conquered – but returning those lands to their people and helping in their reconstruction and growth.

You can’t have it both ways, kid.
You’re either with us or against us. (And you really, really don’t want to be on the bad side.)

  32. What American exceptionalism? You’re all exceptionally mental, that’s the only method by which you seem to distinguish yourselves.

As though someone with a nickname like yours evinces the very epitome of jnbiased thought and commentary.

Try again, drone. This was a FAIL.

btw, try to learn how to be a bit more condescending. You don’t even have that right yet.

.The only good communist is a dead communist.

  34. You fail to miss my point, not going to draw it out for you. I never said America didnt make mistakes. Oh I must stop myself, because its a waste of time to try to talk to people like GB and gOBama. GOD HELP THIS COUNTRY.

  35. oops i meant you miss my point. Snow day, too many kids at home. Too much Co2 in the air, i cant think straight.

  36. I wasn’t being condescending nor attempting it but as usual you and your right wing comrades have failed to engage in sensible discourse. All you do is engage in more logical fallacies “The only good communist is a dead communist.” I am guessing since you don’t say anything concrete its because there isn’t a logical thought in your brain.

ang just keeps cutting off before making any real point just say “oh blah blah blah I am going to stop” The only point you made is liberals don’t want to keep score. Why wouldn’t liberals want to keep score? If they didn’t then we would be able to keep track of the beating we are putting on you guys. :)

Bowing to a foreign leader is a sign of respect for a culture not one of weakness. Since though according to the “logic” you guys adhere to that would make donald rumsfeld a terrorist for shaking hands with saddam. Learn to reason a logically think about things. There is nothing wrong with conservatism but whatever the hell the cheneys and bushes have turning it into is a joke (source 2008 election). Kisses.

    *edit for read-able-ness-ability (bushism)

  38. For a Country that is so ‘exceptional’, you sure do spend an inordinate amount of time convincing yourselves of this supposed fact, which in turn suggests more of an inferiority complex. The rest of the world has caught on to your bloviating , and even your ‘token’ President cannot erase the damage that your Country has done to its own reputation in the last couple of decades. You haven’t ‘won’ a war since you dirty bombed Japan (Korea-stalemate, Vietnam-stalemate, Iraq-?, Afghanistan-?) Hell, the Afghanis are using the very weapons you supplied them during their fight with Russia to KILL Americans. Seriously, the rest of the world could care less if you get universal Health Care or not, if you don’t mind your own government listening in on your phone calls, monitoring your email, intrusive procedures at airports, etc. in the name of ‘security’, your designated ‘free speech zones’, I could go on, but hopefully you all get the picture. Yes, you really are free, aren’t you?!?
American has become the laughingstock of the world. You are no longer feared. But keep telling yourselves that you are ‘exceptional’; you are the only ones who think so anymore…
Oh, and to the commenter who said no one really wants to be on the bad side – thanks for the laugh. What are you going to do, dirty bomb the rest of the world?!?…

Now I will wait and see if this post even shows up – free speech and all…

Not an American Citizen and Proud of it.

So, wtf are you visiting this for? More importantly, do you think anyone here gives a sh*t what you think? Bugger off…and take gObama with you.

  40. In that case, pcbedamned, move along…and take gObama with you.

  41. Dick Cheney is a dreamboat.

  42. does the truth hurt auntie? this is a great comment “For a Country that is so ‘exceptional’, you sure do spend an inordinate amount of time convincing yourselves of this supposed fact.”

People or a country who are good at something don’t talk they do…

  43. #46 comments from people voting and cheering for their own demise.

To be fooled by any of your elected officials says a lot more about you, than it says about anyone else.

Whether you’re putting your vote and voice behind policies than end in war and bloodshed. Or whether its weak and watered-down pseudo-liberal domestic policies, as long as you dig your heels in behind any one of these corrupt pols, whether the neocon bloodlust of some evil wh0re like Cheney, or the thin-skinned, corporate malfeasance that is Obama. %90 of this country and citizens are all doomed.

To root for one side or the other is a joke and a fools errand.

It’s called “voting against your own interests”.

  44. I would probably be more conducive to the notion of American exceptionalism and superiority, if it were not constantly being invoked as a mantra for jingoistic warmaking and heedless adventurism. If it were not constantly used as a justification for the betrayal of all the values that made America execptional in the first place.

Today I read Glenn Greenwald’s deconstruction of the lies told in order to promote the Iraq War, and it made me sick to remember how I supported the war, based on those baldfaced lies.

Lies told by none other than Dick Cheney, that strutting draft dodger who constantly puffs himself up as the exemplar of strength and certitude.

If my words seem a bit bitter, they are. When you have been lied to and made a fool of, there really isn’t any other rational response.

The Cheneyite neocons have used the good name and hard earned trust and faith in America that previous generations built, to turn America into just another global Empire consumed with its own power and expansion.
They talk about American values, but have no understanding of them whatsoever. Cheney and his supporters should be hooted at and driven from the public discourse in shame.

  45. Sorry, once again you Obamatrons fail. None of you still have a clue what American exceptionalism is.

  46. Again sidestepping the issue with nothing real. You guys are hilarious. If we don’t have a clue why don’t you explain it with all your infinite conservative wisdom…

I guaranteed you every “obamatron” has read more about “American exceptionalism” than any of you defenders of it.
