Team Obama threatens vocal democrat; tells him, “Don’t think we’re not keeping score.”
The Hill reported:
Rep. Peter DeFazio’s phone rang. On the other end was Rahm Emanuel.
The White House chief of staff last month expressed frustration with DeFazio’s resignation calls for President Barack Obama’s top two economic aides — Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and White House chief economist Larry Summers — and appealed for cooperation, according to DeFazio.
But Emanuel, known for his blunt manner and ability to bend members of his party to his will, did not raise his voice with the Oregon Democrat.
“Rahm does not yell at me,” DeFazio said, “because he knows that I yell back.”
Others are learning that DeFazio, who has served in the House since 1987 and describes himself as a “progressive populist,” is not easily intimidated. He has emerged in recent months as one of the most vocal liberal critics of the Obama administration, blasting the president’s team for not getting tough enough with Wall Street. He’s also taken on his own party for failing to move left-leaning legislation through the Congress.
Personal calls from Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and former Vice President Al Gore couldn’t persuade him to vote for the Speaker’s climate change bill. He also opposed the $787 billion stimulus, citing concerns that only 7 percent was devoted to infrastructure spending.
DeFazio was one of only two Democrats to vote against those measures and the $700 billion bank bailout. (The other was Rep. Gene Taylor (D-Miss.) a Blue Dog conservative.)
Yet he’s also a pro-gun Democrat who has a B rating from the National Rifle Association.
“I would have less of a voice and I would have less respect if I voted for things I didn’t believe in because of pressure from the leadership,” DeFazio told The Hill in an interview.
Obama himself has taken notice.
“Don’t think we’re not keeping score, brother,” Obama told DeFazio during a closed-door meeting of the House Democratic Caucus, according to members afterward.

Yes, this new tone in Washington is just wonderful isn’t it? Maybe they should just move the White House and Capitol building to Chicago so Obama’s thugs would feel a bit more at home.
The good thing is that people are waking up to what’s going on and the public anger is building. Everyone needs to get involved and speak up. This government works for us, not the other way around so get out there an let them know it.
And while you’re at it go sign the petition to have Obama’s perverted ‘Safe School Czar’ removed.

I’m pretty sure DeFazio is not scared. Actually if you read the comments in the Oregonian, DeFazio’s constituents are furious because the clowns in the WH aren’t liberal enough.

Good for DeFazio! I can’t speak for the rest of his voting record, and maybe he’d be way-out-there too liberal for me, but at least the guy is what we NEED up in Washington, a man with a conscience and a sense of what’s right. That he doesn’t hew to the exact liberal line, if he really does stand behind gun rights, then kudos to him.

The only problem with the Republicans getting the House in 2010 is that Obama can veto anything he wants, and he will…..at least this is as I understand it.

As much as I hate to say nice things about a democrat (and, God knows, they don’t deserve it very often), I guess I have to give kudos to DeFazio. At least he’s standing up to the thuggish tactics of the minor-league mafia that we have occupying the white house at this time; and doing it for what he believes in (albeit for the wrong reason, ie:obama’s not left *enough*).
And, that the NRA gives him a “B” rating doesn’t hurt, either.

Certainly, he can veto anything he wants – but, if there are enough votes, his veto can be overridden.
About the best we’ll be able to hope for, though, is enough new Republicans and Conservatives in congress to stall obama’s evil plans until the 2012 election. In this case, deadlock is better than the current status quo.
Obama is practically a lame duck now. If there is a large Conservative gain in congress in 2010, he’ll be one in actuality for the remainder of his term.

I live in a very red county which, paradoxically, is part of DeFazio’s district. Sadly, we get outvoted by the libs in the Springfield-Eugene area every election. I have dealt with him and find him to be a man of principle, dedicated to helping his constituents. I vehemently disagree with him on most things, esp. Obamacare for which he has lobbied extensively here. In his newsletter last spring he revealed Obama’s threats, so I find it telling that his office is making that public now. Could it be he’s seeing signs of an impending crash? I’m desperately hoping old Pete is the canary in the mine!

In the last year I have become increasingly confused by the actions of the democrat party. Spending trillions and attempting to obligate the Federal government to many more trillions of dollars which frankly will never be there unless they are printed into existence. My confusion lies in the apparent contradiction between seemingly insane actions taken by seemingly intelligent sane people.
I have listened to the likes of Bill O’Reilly say again and again “if Obama keeps this up he’s going to be a one term president.” Today it occurred to me that that’s all Obama intends to be is a one term president. At the very least he’s willing to take that risk to accomplish something far more important to him – the destruction of the American Capitalist system.
Over the last ten years we have witnessed Chris Dodd, Barney Frank and a democrat controlled congress use Fannie and Freddie to drive the banking system to create loan products that had no relationship to market principles and then when it blew up blame it on a lack of government oversight. It was the oversight and promises of a backstop that drove the market out of control in the first place
In 2008 the Federal Reserve added a trillion dollars to the money supply in an effort to “maintain liquidity” in the markets. Commodities, which are traded in dollars (oil), went through the roof. The American people got + $4.00/gal gas and congress blames oil companies and “speculators.”
Presently they are trying to destroy the nation’s healthcare system rather than implement some simple market based reforms. They prevent insurance companies from developing products for the market and selling them across state lines and then blame rapacious insurance companies for the cost of healthcare which in inflation adjusted dollars is cheaper than ever and accessible to more people than any time in our nation’s history. They refuse to discuss tort reform and take millions in campaign contributions from the legal profession.
They are planning to regulate Co2 as a pollutant if they can’t get congress to regulate it as a commodity in spite of the fact that AGW has been proven to be a hoax (and I’m not referring to the recent damning emails released from the UN CRU). I’m referring to actual climate research that indicates a clear relationship between Co2 and warming but one wherein Co2 follows warming and not the other way around.
Do you see the pattern here? Smart people promoting actions and policies which will be the end of America as we know it or worse, the end of America. The democrats are no longer a political opponent, they are America’s opponent. It isn’t enough to suggest that these polices aren’t the best path for our country, they need to be exposed as a deliberate attempt to bring down the country.
Conservatives are at a distinct disadvantage in this struggle. As persons who are happy to live self reliant lives we are not given to the constant scheming for power and “change” that our liberal counterparts seem to live for. As such we have allowed a slow incremental degradation of our laws and institutions to the point where they are now unable to function.
Liberal democrats must not be merely defeated politically they must be destroyed completely so that their destructive agenda can never be taken seriously again.
I am asking you to begin labeling these liberal democrat policies and initiatives for exactly what they are, Anti-American.
Any idiot should be able to understand that a free market will always deliver more value that a controlled market. The Soviets proved this for decades. The result was so disastrous that their citizens fled under penalty of death to get out of there.
Any idiot should know that a government job is only a drag on the economy. A real job is where someone produces more than is required to employ them.
It’s almost too late to stop this train wreck. There certainly isn’t any time for polite rhetoric. These people need to be labeled as America killers. The liberal label is a disguise. They need to be exposed and stopped immediately or the consequences will be catastrophic.
Get out of the box. Get out your hatchet and go chop down a tree… do something drastic before it’s too late.
