Dear G-d. It’s a done deal and those who value life lost.

Catholic Hospitals have signaled that they back the Senate’s compromise on abortion which will, of course, result in taxpayer funded abortions in this country. This gives the democrats in Congress the excuse they need to vote for Obamacare.
The New York Times reported:

In an apparent split with Roman Catholic bishops over the abortion-financing provisions of the proposed health care overhaul, the nation’s Catholic hospitals have signaled that they back the Senate’s compromise on the issue, raising hopes of breaking an impasse in Congress and stirring controversy within the church.

The Senate bill, approved Thursday morning, allows any state to bar the use of federal subsidies for insurance plans that cover abortion and requires insurers in other states to divide subsidy money into separate accounts so that only dollars from private premiums would be used to pay for abortions.

Just days before the bill passed, the Catholic Health Association, which represents hundreds of Catholic hospitals across the country, said in a statement that it was “encouraged” and “increasingly confident” that such a compromise “can achieve the objective of no federal funding for abortion.” An umbrella group for nuns followed its lead.

The same day, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops called the proposed compromise “morally unacceptable.”

  1. Pathetic. I have two bumper stickers on my car. One says “Pro-Choice equals Pro-Abortion”. The second says “You cannot be Catholic and Pro-Abortion”.
These hospitals aren’t Catholic. But they are dispicable.

  2. “Catholic Hospitals have signaled that they back the Senate’s compromise on abortion which will, of course, result in taxpayer funded abortions in this country.”….

  4. I can’t believe this. What has happened to the Catholic church and teachings? I know it has to be money.

I guess everybody and every organization can be bought today.

  5. What the heck is with all these religions…from the ‘religion of peace’ to hindu’s to catholics…is not life sacred to them???

Oh wait…I just answered my own question…

  6. Doesn’t it remain us of an era when German Catholics, Luterans and Calvinists gave their support for Hitler’s social engineering?

Who could have thought about it; The alliance between GOOD AND EVIL… Between God and devil…

  7. They are among the 54% of alleged Catholics that excommunicated (anyone that persists in mortal sin is excommunicated) themselves when they voted for abortion, embryonic stem cell research, the destruction of the nuclear family, i.e., Obama.

“The road to hell is paved with good intentions.” St Bernard de Clairvaix

‘”The floor of hell is paved with the skulls of bishops.” ancient St. John Chrisostom

  8. It is also remarkable how silent all those Catholics have been when the NOBLEST AND THE MOST PROMINENT CHRISTIAN in America – SARAH PALIN was being viciously attacked…

  9. But then, why we wonder when we have one of the most confused and morally weakest Popes in history presently occupying the throne in Vatican?

  10. No Priest; no Bishop; No Nun, Not even a Cardinal is in a position to decide this question and issue an announcement that “speaks” for the Catholic Church. The ultimate decision will come from the Pope. So I wouldn’t be getting my undies in a wad because some “group” of hospitals made a statement. That “group” just might be in for one helluva shock.

  11. Hold on there just a second. This would NOT be the first time in the healthcare debate that the NYt reported something they WANTED to see happen and NOT the truth.

Who exactly are these ‘Catholic Hospitals’? Is there some sort of undefined group of people that meet to make these decisions? This NYt story has no information regarding this group other than this claim of support for abortion from it.

Where is the written statement from this alledged group? And exactly who signed this statement.

These questions are unanswered because this is what the NYt has devolved into, an opinion sheet without any regard for facts.

  12. Do these hospitals perform abortions now? That will become a key question. If they are to participate under this legislation, will they then will be forced to perform abortions?

  13. — this group IN NO WAY represents the Catholic Church. It is purely a political lobbyist group setting itself up — erroneously — as an official spokesman for Catholic hospitals, which it is NOT! Check it out for yourself … be sure to look at all their links from the menu across the top of the page.

  14. Here is the statement, from the CHA website, dated Decmber 17.

The Catholic Health Association is pleased to learn of the work being done to improve the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2009. As we understand it, the Senate intends to keep the President’s commitment that no federal funds will pay for abortions and in addition, provide significant new support for pregnant women.

While we have yet to see the manager’s amendment or Senator Robert Casey’s final abortion amendment language, we are encouraged by recent deliberations and the outline Senator Casey is developing. It is our understanding that the language now being written would prohibit federal funding of abortion, ensure provider conscience protection and fund programs to provide supportive care to some of the most vulnerable pregnant women in our society.

Especially now that a public health insurance option is no longer on the table, we are increasingly confident that Senator Casey’s language can achieve the objective of no federal funding for abortion. We urge Congress to continue its work toward the goal of health reform that protects life at all stages while expanding coverage to the greatest possible number of people in our country. We look forward to reviewing the final language these improvements contemplate.

  15. In my opinion, the New York Times has attempted to use this statement as a wedge to divide Catholic opinion. They have printed it on the front page and used a misleading headline.

  16. the catholic church teamed up with Nazis too.

    sell out….they love amnesty….communists all.

  17. Thanks, Robert. It’s good to know that the CHA is just being naive, and not actively siding against the Church.

  18. i remember this past summer how catholic hospitals threatened to close down if this crap was passed. wonder what happened? as a catholic i wish the church would just publicly start excommunicating idiots like pelosi to send a message to the catholic in name only crowd…if you don’t believe in life then leave the church and stop calling yourself catholic. satan is the lord of death, God is the Lord of Life. It’s that simple.

  19. What should be next on the agenda of anyone who is opposed to the Reid health bill is to get involved with the Scott Brown for US Senate campaign in Massachusetts.

    http://www.brownforussenate.com

We have the chance to TAKE AWAY HARRY REID’S 60TH VOTE!

The health bill will need at least one more vote to pass the combined bill, and that won’t be until February. The special election for US Senate is January 19.

WHEN SCOTT BROWN WINS, HARRY WON’T HAVE 60 VOTES!

We need to get involved, send support, write our newspapers and GET THIS STORY ON THE FRONT PAGES.

Sadly, most Massachusetts voters don’t even know there IS a special election.

WE NEED TURNOUT! THE HIGHER THE TURNOUT, THE MORE LIKELY A WIN IS FOR BROWN.

The national GOP organizations have all but ignored this race – little press, little funding.

If people are serious about being against the Reid health bill, they need to get active NOW and start talking up Scott Brown on a national level. We need support
and media coverage to get out the vote!

THIS should be at the top of our agenda. We still have some
serious work ahead – the battle to save the US health care system IS NOT OVER!

  20. I’m with Freddy- 48 hr. rule here.

  21. I’m a personally prolife Catholic and a lifelong Democrat and I think this Senate compromise strikes a good balance between not subsidizing an unfortunate practice like abortion, and providing healthcare to more people which is important to me. I think we need to pick our battles carefully here. We don’t want to promote abortion but I think expanding healthcare coverage to as many people as possible is something God would want us to do.

what??? so you think God is all for forcing people to get health insurance they don’t want? taxing them, then fining them, with the threat of jail? you think God is okay for rationing of health care to infants, disabled, and the elderly? you think God is for all the bribes? for special treatment that other states get? that the elite get better health care then us serfs? do you think God is okay with the taking of innocent life??? this marxist takeover of our health care is all about power and control and has very little to do with helping americans.

  23. “I’m a personally prolife Catholic and a lifelong Democrat and I think this Senate compromise strikes a good balance between not subsidizing an unfortunate practice like abortion, and providing healthcare to more people which is important to me.”

Serving TWO MASTERS, this is the sin which sends the evil straight to Hades; bypassing purgatory.

Do tell righteous one, how do you fell about STEALING from the children so you can feel religious?

Dear God, I pray the Lord remove the wickedness inside those Catholics who accept the slithering serpent’s tongue preaching Satan’s evil.

Hear my prayer Oh Lord-in the name of Jesus.

  24. Carl…..

So God is all for destroying the best health care system in the world and denigrating health care by increasing cost, denying choice, rationing of services, decreasing timely access and increasing taxes on the people who are the producers and hard workers of society in order to provide health insurance to those who choose to live off the public dime? Frankly, I don’t think so…God would certainly be aginst the Democrat’s plan. Remember, no one…not the poor not even illegal aliens are denied health care and treatment in America. Not everyone has health insurance, though. Health insurance is not a right. It is a commodity and a privledge.

  25. Those who value individual liberty, the right to order their own lives apart and safe from interference by superstitious fools – may yet win.

  26. The Vatican MUST take a stand against this murder. Catholic hospitals can go to hell!
    .

  27. Good bye, St. John’s Mercy, Hello, Missouri Baptist

  28. The CHA should have waited until they had the bill to read and evaluate before issuing a statement. They jumped to a preliminary conclusion and expect Casey to do the right thing. One thing they forgot is that dems always lie, and the NYT will mislead whenever they can if it helps promote socialism.

  29. I think the Pope needs to get involved with this one. Either the hospitals must refuse abortion money, or they must change their name.

  30. And this is a surprise how?

The Church has been infiltrated at all levels – http://www.FreeTheND88.org

  31. “…the New York Times has attempted to use this statement as a wedge to divide Catholic opinion.”

Good; let’s separate the men from the boys. Time to clarify who’s really a Catholic.

“Carl”, you need two more weeks in Cincinnati to brush up your act; it lacks nuance. You’re a very obvious paid disinformation agent.

The Catholic Church did not team up with the Nazis and has been a strong force AGAINST communism. You need a refresher course in history.

(Sorry for the double post. I accidentally hit the return button before I was finished.)

  33. carl,

You’ve been duped–as has the Catholic Health Association, which has been a disappointing outfit for years.

The faithful Catholic alternative, for those who want to know, is the Catholic Medical Association, which you can learn more about at: http://www.cathmed.org/

  34. I do not believe “Catholic Churches think abortion is okay” if it’s Gov. funded. I do not believe this cocomamie bs. Someone made this stuff up and then put it on the faux news.
What Churches? What’s the names and states? Nothing. Nada. It’s a stupid made up meme.

The health care tax bill is written by a Chairman who says he “doesn’t understand it.” It is about to be passed by a Congress which hasn’t read it. It will be signed by a President who smokes and snorts. It will be funded by a Treasury Secretary who did not pay his taxes. It will be overseen by a Surgeon General who is obese and it will be financed by a country that is broke. And they all LIE CONSTANTLY in their swarmy cesspool on the hill and at the white house. Do they even know That 3/4 of Americans DO NOT want them or their cocomamie bills?

  35. SOROS, SEIU, ACORN, Nanski Peloski, The Gamaliel Project (Obama’s connected here).. follow the money$$$.. additionally, there’s at least 20 Catholic Health Association Hospitals in Nebraska giving Ben ‘Cornhusker Kickback’ Nelson, cover for his sellout… the progressive left and the Church seem to be bedding down around ‘social justice’..

    http://firstjohnfourfive.wordpress.com/2009/11/23/the-catholic-connection-to-obamacare/

  36. “the progressive left and the Church seem to be bedding down around ’social justice’.. ”
check out jerry kellman – the alinsky protege and recruiter of obama. converted from judaism to catholicism. now he’s active with the church in chicago…… he’s move into the community and is changing it within – very alinsy=ite of him.

  37. part of a 1972 interview given to playboy by saul alinsky. acknowledging that even if he could organize all the poor, etc, it would not be enough to effect change. interesting view of the middle class………. interesting where his change has led us…. when the straight and narrow life [so to speak] became something to
    criticized and belittle.
    http://www.progress.org/2003/alinsky3.htm

  38. Robert (comment #18) is right. The website for the Catholic Health Association has this posted from December 17th, before the final bill was even introduced. This is what the CHA anticipated. They did not make this statement based on the final bill. This is so, so dishonest, but what do you expect from the NYT?! They also misled the congressmen they quoted in the article. They thought the CHA made the statement about the final bill. Will someone tell them the truth?

  39. A call to repent………….

    Revelation 3:14-22 (New International Version)

    To the Church in Laodicea
14″To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:
These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. 15I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. 18I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. 19Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. 20Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. 21To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

  40. The cardinal up here in MA tried to work out a deal with the catholic hospitals, insurance companies and providing abortion services….until it was made public. Now, I’m proud to say, he has worked out a “back alley” deal (who knows what that is).

  41. Screw the Catholic church and Hospitals. I would not piss on them if they were on fire!!!!

  42. Robert and Lisa are right–look at the website. It clearly states that they had not yet read the manger’s amendment, and the NYT is beyond dishonest in this news report. I’m surprised anyone is considering them a reliable source.
