Bad news for Obama and his democrats…
66% of Americans prefer a smaller federal government with few services according to a new Rasmussen survey:
Sixty-six percent (66%) of U.S. voters prefer a smaller government with fewer services and lower taxes over a more active government with more services and higher taxes.
That’s the second highest finding of the year: In August at the height of the congressional town hall controversies over the health care plan, 70% felt that way.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 22% prefer a government with more services and higher taxes. Eleven percent (11%) aren’t sure which is best.
Eighty-eight percent (88%) of Republicans and 63% of voters not affiliated with either major party like a smaller government better. Democrats are more narrowly divided: 51% favor a smaller government, but 37% opt for a larger, more activist government.

Two thirds — that’s the magic number for Constitutional amendments, isn’t it? Hint hint…
Norwell commented:
The question should really be framed as one of regulation, not services, i.e., do you want to pay more taxes so the government can spend more time telling people what they can or cannot do. Most of the growth in government has been to expand the bureaucracy, rather than actually providing services to the public.

Russell made the point I was going to. They favor small government if their farm subsidies aren’t cut, or if their jobs at the government aren’t lost, or if their job of building overly expensive military equipment isn’t consolidated from every state in the union to a few, or if their unemployment isn’t cut, or their customers who DO work for the government don’t lose THEIR jobs.
What does that leave? Well, we can stop providing services to illegals. We can also start cutting back on the green legislation and start adding more legal protection to businesses, so they won’t have to panic every time they need to higher someone because a minority will sue them for or for not hiring them. The double income tax on business hurts like hell too.
People want smaller government? Then start by giving up some of the people’s “protection” from business that’s protecting them right out of their jobs.

In the Constitution, there are only THREE federal crimes: Treason, Piracy and Counterfitting.
Through government REGULATION, however, there are now 10,000+ federal crimes, all with fines and prison attached to them.
Through regulation – by various bureaucracies – not law.
(Just thought that was worth a mention.)
