Although it’s taken months, Barack Obama could quite possibly make a decision to send more troops to Afghanistan to support American forces fighting there.
Of course, there are also reports that Obama may propose a tactical surrender too.
The AP reported:
The White House said President Barack Obama could use an unusual evening war council session Monday to lock in his long-awaited decision on whether to commit tens of thousands of new U.S. forces to the stalemated war in Afghanistan.
Military officials and others said they expect Obama to settle on a middle-ground option that would deploy an eventual 32,000 to 35,000 U.S. forces to the 8-year-old conflict.
That rough figure has stood as the most likely option since before Obama’s last large war council meeting earlier this month, when he tasked military planners with rearranging the timing and makeup of some of the deployments.
The president has said with increasing frequency in recent days that a big piece of the rethinking of options that he ordered had to do with building an exit strategy into the announcement—in other words, revising the options presented to him to clarify when U.S. troops would turn over responsibility to the Afghan government and under what conditions.
As White House press secretary Robert Gibbs put it to reporters on Monday, it’s “not just how we get people there, but what’s the strategy for getting them out.”

How novel – a President taking the time to give serious thought before making a major foreign policy decision! We’re not used to that!

I think they mean that he’ll make a decision about when he’ll make a decision on the additional troops.

What kind of lurid AP fiction prose is this? Last of the Mohicans?

By the way, ANY Afghan government is NOT going to be able to defend the Afghan nation against ANY foreign attack, from ANYONE. That is why Bin Laden PICKED it to set up his base of operations – a single multimillionaire and his band was able to shove the devastated Afghans around.
If the United States military leaves, ANYTIME in the NEXT FIFTY YEARS, then Afghanistan FALLS to the first invader to cross their borders.
A race between the Russians and the Taliban to seize the country.
How come it’s okay for US troops to be installed between N and S Korea without ANY quibbles, since EVERYONE understands the stakes, and everyone understood why the USA stayed in GERMANY for 50 years and counting, but AFGHANISTAN which is the gateway to Asia, the Caucasus, China, Russia etc can’t get the serious respect its strategic position deserves from the Democrats?
Afghans can’t even get PITY from the Democrats (“we care for the ltitle guy”) for the suffering Afghans have endured at the hands of the Soviet communists, the warring warlords and then the radical Islamofascist thugs, Bin Laden and the Taliban.

Will that decision be made before or after Obama surrenders to The Taliban ?

Maybe Obama is busy taking night courses in how to be Presidential? What the h*** is taking him so long to make up his mind?
Don’t be fooled; his mind is already made up. His aim is to end the war. Or should I say, end our participation in the war. The war in Afghanistan will go on and on for decades without us.
Obama was clear during the campaign that he wanted to fight this “war of necessity”, although he never said he wanted to win it.
Now he’s been sitting on the toilet with a serious case of leadership constipation. I say, crap or get off the pot, Mr. President.
He’s painting himself as an incompetent leader. He isn’t; he’s a shrewd and cunning politician whose anti-war ideology is laying in wait until the right moment to pounce. Then, we’ll bow out and lose the war.
And I don’t want to hear any crap from Democrats about how Gitmo recruited a whole new generation of terrorists. It is DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTS who have created a whole new generation of terrorists.
1) Bill Clinton in Somalia, after refusing to aid commanders with reinforcements and our soldiers were killed, we pulled troops, we created al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden’s diabolical plan to attack us.
2) Obama in Afghanistan; he’s refusing to send reinforcements after saying he would listen to his commanders in the field, and as he talks about an exit strategy, this defeat will stoke, as it already is, a new generation of recruits who will be very excited that they are part of a group that was able to defeat the United STates of America.
Really, I would not want to be Barack Obama on judgment day. His hands are full of blood, whether innocent Afghan women who will lose their lives or at best only their innocents because of our impending withdrawal, or the troops who are sitting ducks, biding time as Obama jet sets around the world to boost his own image.
This is a dangerous shell game. President Obama will be judged harshly for his mismanagement of human beings, and I’m just glad I’m not him.

Obama’s Rules Of Engagement In Afghanistan Costing Our Troops Lives
The battle took place around the remote hamlet of Gangigal, in a valley about six miles from the Pakistani border, after local elders invited the U.S. and Afghan forces for a meeting.
American officers said there was no doubt that they’d walked into a trap, as the insurgents were dug in at the village, and had preset their weapons and their fields of fire.
It was a trap alright….but one they could of extradited themselves out of if not for the rules of engagement laid out by Obama’s General, General Stanley McChrystal:
Airstrikes by coalition forces in Afghanistan have dropped dramatically in the three months Gen. Stanley McChrystal has led the war effort there, reflecting his new emphasis on avoiding civilian casualties and protecting the population.
The Marines who were killed were not the ones less inclined to call for a bombing run, in fact they were depending on it to get them out of the trap….and none came:

After nine months he wants to portray how resolute and decisive he is ! I thought he had ‘a plan’ or was it just a plan to come up with a plan?
Solaratov commented:
No matter what, thanks to president pantywaist’s dithering and inability to make a decision (or stick with one), the first troops will not arrive in A-stan until March/April of 2010 – the beginning of the taliban’s Spring offensive (after a full winter of r&r and re-equipping); and no time to acclimate to the country or the people or the situation on the ground.
And, they’ll be sent in incrementally, so the last of the new forces won’t get there until Sept./October.
Had obama stuck with his decision in the first place, all of the troops would have been in there in time for “war season”.
And it’s just wonderful that the ditherer who can’t decide when or if he’s going to support the troops will announce an “exit strategy” — which will, basically, allow the taliban and aq to plan for however long they need to hold out until obama cuts and runs. All they’ll have to do is inflict enough casualties on American troops to keep the leftists whining about pulling out.(without actually doing enough fighting to get seriously hurt.) All they have to do is play a waiting game.
Frankly, obama sucks.
