That’s weird. After supporting the killer regime over the Iranian democratic protesters, the Castro regime over the persecuted Cuban people, and former criminal President Manuel Zelaya over the people of Honduras…
President Obama told the leaders of Burma to release pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi today.
Aung San Suu Kyi
Aung San Suu Kyi has been under house arrest for 14 years.
The BBC reported:

US President Barack Obama has urged Burma’s prime minister to release the pro-democracy leader, Aung San Suu Kyi.

Mr Obama delivered the message as he met leaders of the Asean grouping of south-east Asian nations in Singapore.

White House press secretary said Mr Obama raised the issue “directly” with General Thein Sein.

Ms Suu Kyi’s house arrest was extended in August beyond the elections planned for next year. She has spent 14 years in detention in the past two decades.

Well, at least he got this one right.

  1. What’s so weird about the ASSHAT making a decision about anything? He just hasn’t figured out anything yet and he’s confused.

  2. What do expect of a man who has no skills, no moral code, no critical thinking skills, and no experience at anything except spending other people money.
What is Obama’s track record of decision making.
    Racist lunatic Preacher mentor. CHECK.
Teenage mentor is leading Communist. CHECK.
    Corrupt Rezko land deal. CHECK.
The man is not capable of running a Popcorn stand.

  3. They probably won’t pay any attention.

  4. When does a dictator have a compassionate heart? Obama is not only naive but a moron.

  5. She’s probably a fellow communist.

  6. This one was easy for him and easy for us. There’s no downside in calling for her release. Who pays attention to Burma/Myanmar? Fidel or Hugo are not going to be offended or go with any public comments. It’s akin to a Liberal saying “I’m against war!” Phew! Real tough position to take.

Who even knows who the junta leader of Burma is?

So, for Obla-Blah-Blah there’s no risk and the reward is that he feathers his “compassion” bonnet. Typical empty suit gesture. He gets the headlines from the AP, Reuters, et al and doesn’t have to follow through on anything.

  7. That’s because he knows it’s not going to happen- and he doesn’t care anyway.

But EZ points he can use to say he supports a freedom agenda/deflect criticism of his cowardice elsewhere… and a smokescreen while he continues all-out in his efforts to strip us of OUR freedoms.

Ain’t nothing like it seems with this calculating, specious POS- and GAWD am I sick of it

  8. Perhaps he is more cynical than that.

Releasing her now will lend a bit more legitimacy to the elections next year. And I am fairly certain we know who he’d prefer remai- errr, be voted into power.

  9. lol – Otter – as Lily Tomlin said long ago – “I try to be cynical but it’s so hard to keep up.”

    Thanks for reminding me.

  11. It’s not hard to imagine that his public ‘request’ for the release of Aung San Suu Kyi must have been accompanied by a private ‘donation’ of US taxpayer funds to shore up the tyrannical regime of Burma, or Myanmar or whatever PC name the lefties like today.

  12. He recognizes a situation with no downside for him. Burma would probably release her if she agrees to leave the country, not return, and remain quiet – conditions she’ll not likely accept.

If by some chance she did accept them – if she was simply worn out by the never-ending imprisonment and wanted to go quietly away – she does no harm then to the general’s rule.

    So, for Obama, it’s a win-win situation.

  13. Was a safe statement.

What threat is Burma to the US?

The nation of Burma is’nt our bank, China is.

Big Obama feels safe bullying a little country.

  14. This has something to do with the Noble Prize…..
