"Railway to Gateway" Event in Normal, Illinois

Last night I spoke at an event in Normal, Illinois sponsored by the local 9-12 Project on “Citizen Journalism in the Age of Obama.”

The local conservative group called it “Railway to Gateway.”
Kristina Rasmussen, the Executive Vice President at the Illinois Policy Institute, also gave a terrific speech on the the high speed rail project planned for Illinois.
The event was held at the updated ISU Alumni Center.
The address: 1101 N. Main Street, Normal, Illinois, 61761.
It will start at 6:30 and end at 9:30 PM.
Kristina discussed the high-speed railway boondoggle planned for Illinois. The rail line would likely cost billions and take taxpayers for a ride.

Several protests were held in Illinois this year against this high-speed rail project. Here is a video report.

Our ‘money pit’ the NorthStar line, from the north west rural communities to Minneapolis, went on line yesterday.
$7.50 to travel 51 minutes, cheaper than “gas and parking combined”.
Hope the 1,000s working in downtown Minneapolis remember us at Xmas with a card.

The Phoenix light rail was a boondoggle for the tax payers too. It ended up being the liberal mayor, Phil Gordon’s “pet-project”, and now light rail and fast rail projects seem to be spreading like the swine flu. There is no way it makes a profit, but then again, the Green lefties don’t care about profit. Pedestrians and cars get hit by the train cars. All the thousands of city workers get to ride for free. All of the traffic signals, and existing right-of-ways have been confused by the added right-of-ways of the trains. It’s a “feel-good” who’s service is already being served by busses.

We have a similar boondoggle coming to CA. a high speed rail form L.A to San Fran. Costing billions. It will only be high speed for a short distance and over earthquake faults. Can’t reach high speed unti it is way past LA and than has to slow down again before it even gets near San Fran. The worst part voters actually passed this nightmare. Oh yeah it will still be cheaper and faster to fly.

Don’t forget the half a dozen Amtrak/truck collisions in IL in the last 10 years.
The Amtrak boneyard is a sight to see! No money to fix wrecked cars or locos. The fleet shrinks as fast as they produce new equipment.

In Colorado they have a 15 billion price tag on a high speed rail from Denver to Vail. This of course does not figure the lost revenue that is collected from the many tourist traps along the proposed route or the revenue that will be lost at other winter ski locations.
The huge problem of a high speed line is that it only benefits a few people. The people who live or work close to the stations.
