Washington cop killer Maurice Clemmons told Mike Huckabee that he had turned his life around before he was released from prison in Arkansas.
The Arkansas Blog reported:
The Seattle Times has posted documents from the state parole board that bear on the decision by Gov. Mike Huckabee to commute murder suspect Maurice Clemmons’ 108-year-prison sentence to immediate parole eligiblity. He said he’d fallen in with a bad crowd after moving to Arkansas, but had turned his life around. He said he’d prayed Huckabee would help him. Circuit Judge Marion Humphrey, who is also a Presbyterian minister, supported the clemency application.
Clemmons wrote in an appeal to Huckabee that he’d been sent to prison after an extended crime spree that started in 1989 when he was a teenager — and that he was a different person now.
At the time of the crimes — which included aggravated robbery, firearms possession and burglary — Clemmons claimed he was 16 years old and had moved from Seattle to a high-crime neighborhood in Arkansas.
“I succumbed to the peer pressure and the need I had to be accepted by other youth in my new environment and fell in with the wrong crowd and thus began a seven (7) month crime spree which led me to prison,” Clemmons wrote in his application to Huckabee.
Clemmons said he came from “a very good Christian family” and “was raised much better than my actions speak (I’m still ashamed to this day for the shame my stupid involvement in these crimes brought to my family name.),” he wrote.
“Where once stood a young (16) year old misguided fool, who’s (sic) own life he was unable to rule. Now stands a 27 year old man, who has learned through ‘the school of hard knocks’ to appreciate and respect the rights of others. And who has in the midst of the harsh reality of prison life developed the necessary skills to stand along (sic) and not follow a multitude of do evil, as I did as a 16 year old child.”

There’s a fallacy in the belief that if someone may really truly repent of his or her evil ways, that he or she can be thus excused from fair punishment decreed by a court of law.
No. Jesus’s kingdom is in HEAVEN, not EARTH. A true believer will accept the just punishment for crimes, knowing that he or she will be forgiven and have eternal life, even after imprisonment or execution. It’s a comfort and reassurance, NOT a GET OUT OF JAIL FREE card.
Lost souls abound in prison, it’s the place to be for evangelising. But the Judeo-Christian culture totally identifies the sinful nature of man. So no one should be surprised in any way that people will LIE, and quite convincingly, adroitly appealing to all manner of mercies to dodge just punishment.
Letting out people arbitrarily because they said the right words and pretended contrite injects fallable emotion, not firm adherence to Rule of Law.

Huckabee fell for THAT?
A letter that was obviously written by a lawyer?
What an idiot.
And now four brave police officers are dead.

What wanumba said is 100% accurate(as usual), IMO. Furthermore, discipline is part of the redeemption. God disciplines those He loves. As a Christian, you don’t want to hear that, really. To be honest. But you understand that it comes along with the sin. BECAUSE His discipline is designed to work out holiness in us. His discipline will work out what caused us to sin in the first place.
In my opinion, he should have been locked up, and the key thrown away. He raped a child. As far as I’m concerned (and maybe because of personal experience) a person that harms a child sexually should be castrated. Maybe one day I won’t feel like that. It ain’t today.
My prayers are with the families. I cannot imagine. My father is a policeman. I would go blind with rage if he were gunned down in cold blood like that.

How does a 17 year old get sentenced to 101 years? That is inconceivable. Especially for armed robbery, etc. That wouldn’t happen just about anywhere else. He had to be eligible for parole at some time.
Pat the First commented:
Crystal, the child rape came after his first incarceration. That was the charge here in WA State for which he got bail last week.
crystal commented:
Pat,
I do not understand why they insist on letting child rapers out of jail. And add that to his long list of heinous crimes….just crazy.

rapers=rapists

Not only that, but he was also charged with assault of a police officer. All he had to pay was $15K to get out jail. This guy should never have been allowed to get bail.
crystal commented:
Pat, anyone willing to assualt a police officer is highly dangerous. Shows they have no regard whatsoever for the law, and innocent civillians.

Huckabee’s on The O’Reilly Factor in just a few minutes.
I’m tired of his spin. He hucked up!
MargaretMN commented:
I am not trying to excuse the cop killer or Huckabee but from what I have read, this guy sounds like he has some kind of mental illness that cycles. Maybe schizophrenia. In his teens he was a monster. He could have stabilized in prison with a highly regimented environment and meds. Out of prison, with no structure he hit another cycle and boom! Unfortunately there are a lot of criminals like that and there isn’t too much you can do except find a way to keep them locked up to keep society safe. How to tell the really reformed people from guys like this? Heck if I know.

I want to know something that is totally anti-pc. This piece of garbage said he “turned my life around.” Did he turn his life around by becoming a radicalized muzlim in prison?? Was this not murder, but an actual act of terrorism?

We could look to the Supreme Court which voted against capital punishment for child rape. Why?

……………………
Don’t know yet, but it is a very fair question to hold on pending more info about the suspect as we have kept the quotes from the SF INDYMEDIA site (in 2004 I think) exhorting the “American muhajedeen” to attack soldiers, ROTC, military recruitment centers, and COPS whenever possible, with any and all means – including “baseball bats,” “brass knuckles” – “the fender of a large SUV” … and “knives and guns.”
Remember the SUV attack on the college campus? Doesn’t really seem like “sudden jihad” when the SF INDYMEDIA site had expressly mentioned using SUVs to kill.

Hey crystal! Give your father a hug tonight and tell him we ALL TOO appreciate him and all his fellow officers.
Just further musings … doesn’t THIS look like a rappy sort of argument? (Added caps for emphasis):
“Where once stood a young (16) year old misguided FOOL,
who’s own life he was unable to RULE.
Now stands a 27 year old man, who has learned through ‘the SCHOOL
of hard knocks’ to appreciate and respect the rights of others.”
Ugh. Red flag for boilerplate insincerity.

There was a case years ago where a woman who had been given a death sentence had gone through an evangelical (Christian) rebirth, and some were hoping she would be pardoned because of it. The media almost seemed to be accusing the governor of the state (I forget the names) of being a false Christian for hesitating to issue the pardon. Wanumba’s explanation is spot on: true repentance includes embracing responsibility and punishment for the deed.
Best regards, Peter Warner.

…..
Exactly! The woman herself stated she deserved her punishment, but the media and wishy-washies tried thru media circus to get a pardon for her. Yep, she did indeed seem like the real deal, and certainly would not have been a threat to society IF pardoned, BUT the murder required justice and she understood even though she was saved spiritually, she would have to face the temporal punishment for the crime she’d committed years before. It was just, and she was guilty of it.
So, it was very moving and somber, but justice was correctly served. She did right, even in death, so much peace and proper resolution came of it because of her faith.

I want to know why the State of Washington which had Clemmons, is not receiving the blame? Why was his bail set so low? I don’t like the Huckabee bashing – he received over 1,200 requests for pardons per year. The State of Washington dropped the ball big time on this one
Alice L. commented:
Come to think of it, isn’t Chrissy Gregoire, the ACORN candidate, the governor of Washington? Why does this not surprise me?
KarenO commented:
Clemmons was convicted of 9 felonies in Washington before he killed these officers. While I was never a fan of Huckaby, the Washington state judicial system is nothing but liberal bleeding hearts, either. Also, Clemmons was associated with the Nation of Islam in Cummins prison, Arkansas–a little known fact, hidden by the MSM..
