A recent CNN poll found that 61% of Americans oppose tax-funded abortions and 63% of Americans oppose most or all abortions.
But the Obama Administration told reporters that they will strip the Stupak Amendment that bans tax-funded abortions from their nationalized health plan.
Lifesite News reported, via Free Republic:
As Congress remains embroiled in a massive debate over whether to force Americans to pay for abortions through the new government-run health care programs, a new CNN poll finds 61 percent oppose government funding abortions with public dollars.
The poll found six in ten Americans favor a ban on using federal funds for abortions, such as the Stupak amendment recently added to the health care bill in the House.
The new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released today shows 61 percent oppose taxpayer funding of abortions while just 37 percent are supportive.
The CNN poll goes further and finds that a majority of Americans, by a 51 to 45 percent margin, believe women should be required to use their own money to pay for abortions even if they have private health insurance and no government money is involved. They did not think health insurance should pay for abortions.

If they strip the Stupak Amendment, couldn’t those who voted for the Bill because of the amendment’s inclusion, rescind their vote?

On a related note, I have to wonder if Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) will start another list and read the names of the children killed by H1N1 this year due to the Dems bungling of the virus vaccine…?
Hmmm…hmmm…hmmm

I think my son who is hearing impaired listens better than this Congress.
I don’t know what it will take other than the 2010 elections to get them to look at reality. It seems they are incapapable to do so, they are so intent on instituting their agenda. I can’t think of better argument for term limits. This Congress doesn’t want to look out for American interests, it is bowing to special interests.

Oh Dear! Oh Dear. Soon-to-be-ex-Democrat will be very upset by the SMALL TENT that America has become.
63% think abortion is wrong.
It is legal 100% of the time.

While I agree that abortion (under certain regulations or restrictions) should remain legal, I don’t think it should be promoted or subsidized by the gov’t.
I wonder if the people who voted for Obama looked at who gets the most abortions would they still be for it?
If Republicans would turn and say they were pro-choice the left would cry “RACISTS” loud and hard.
What an f-ed up world we are in.

Mr. Hoft, did you forget that Team 44 won and thus in their collective twisted mind they can do whatever they want…..?

Word has it that if they cant get Stupak tossed they will change the funding language to cover “impregnation burden removal”

I don’t support the Stupak amendment, but I do understand why it makes sense.
As far as the “most” Americans oppose abortion argument, it isn’t one. “Most” Americans oppose a lot of things that are perfectly legal and protected by laws of civil liberty. Mob rule makes no sense in a society that proclaims itself to be free. Protecting the minority from with will of the majority is the single greatest thing about this country and I hope to god we never lose it.
Just image the cultural shift the country will take in the next 50 years, if you go with mob rule then we could easily make Christianity (or any one particular religion) illegal.

This is actually surprising to me. The pro-choice people that I know are one hundred percent opposed to public funding for abortions.
Sojourner commented:
In his May remarks to the 09 grads of Notre Dame, the President spoke, “So let’s work together to reduce the number of women seeking abortions by reducing unintended pregnancies…
( a health care bill that underwrites reduction of unintended pregnancies through taxpayer funding for abortion doesn’t smack of “working together” towards that goal to me).. he further stated: “Let’s make sure that ALL OUR HEALTH CARE POLICIES are grounded in clear ethics.”
… how does he square these words with the “ethics ” of legislating ending life under the guise of healthcare that every citizen will be forced to subsidize? At this point, it’s becoming clear, he doesn’t care.. history has to be made!

To be fair, the Stupak Amendment does not prevent taxpayer funded abortions. It allows the three exceptions and is written broadly enough to allow just about any abortion for any reason as long as the doctor signs off on it. If you’ve ever read anything about abortion doctors, they’re not known for their efforts in saving the child’s life if at all possible.
