Obama Upset With Commoners For Criticizing His $74,000 Date Night

The elitist in the White House is upset with the commoners for criticizing his £45,000 ($74,000) date night in New York City during the worst recession since the Great Depression .
“The notion that I just couldn’t take my wife out on a date without it being a political issue was not something I was happy with.”
The Daily Mail reported at the time that Obama’s date night in New York City cost £45,000.
It was not your average night out on the town.

That’s for three private jets, two helicopter rides, extra planes for security and closing roads for motorcade
It was a campaign pledge that Barack Obama didn’t dare break – a promise to take his wife out for dinner and a show once the election was over.
So on the weekend he booked a babysitter, asked Michelle to put on a little black dress and swept her off for a date…
The romantic jaunt is estimated to have cost the taxpayer more than £45,000 in transport and security costs – because the date was in New York.
The President used three planes, one to carry the couple and two to ferry aides and reporters all the way from Washington.
The cost of each flight was thought to be nearly £15,000.The bill was pushed even higher with the use of two helicopters, one to take the Obamas to catch their plane in Washington and another to zip the party into Manhattan from JFK airport.
And, it seems like it was just yesterday that Barack Obama was telling us that everyone was going to have to sacrifice for the greater good.
Well… Some of us have to sacrifice anyway.

I’m not particularly a fan of Mr Obama, but I think that, like any well-to-do Washington professional, he ought to be able to take his wife to New York City once in a while. The fact that it costs $74,000 rather than $1500 (or whatever a splurge-date costs) is the result of (1) genuine security concerns and (2) an imperial style of presidency which the Obamas did not create and would have trouble changing.
The rot is widespread, btw. I respect former Canadian prime minister Jean Chretien for making do with a single RCMP officer when he took his wife to the movies (yes, sitting with the rest of us schlubs). But the staff of a certain provincial premier was notorious for throwing a newlywed couple out of their suite because it was of course necessary to clear several floors of the hotel to ensure security for the premier and his entourage.
It’s a broad issue, not unique to the Obamas.

I’d sure like a link to some photos, etc., showing the Bush “imperial presidency”. The Bush family never did anything like this. Niether did the Reagans.
If there’s an imperial presidency, it’s being bolstered by the obama royal family.
And, Prairie Boy @#23 – Pennsylvania Ave, is closed to cars in front of the white house (as are all of the streets adjacent to the wh). Of course, maybe they could use special Secret Service cars for her exercise.

My impression is that wherever the US president goes, he’s accompanied by a huge entourage of security people. I remember a report – in the 1980s – about a street being closed down, with security people stationed on key sightlines, all because Vice-President Bush’s motorcade was due to pass through.
What kind of entourage did Bush II take with him went walkabout among the proles? Presumably he needed something. Perhaps these needs were bloated by bureaucratic imperatives, I don’t know.

The point is that the President and First Lady cannot simply book their travel on Expedia and fly coach. Any trip they take will require the use of a “private jet” and private security. It’s not like Bush flew JetBlue when he went to the ranch in Crawford.

The U.S. is in a recession with massive job losses and foreclosures; I think that is the point. Obama has no class, and he is unable to empathize with the populace and their sufferings – that should worry people, that he wouldn’t even clue into this before and AFTER going on his expensive date.

The point is ‘guess who’ that the Queen and little Bo need to realize that parents are telling their kids they need to skip the family trip this year, and no going out to dinner and oh by the way dad or mom lost their job- and oh- now we are losing the house. It’s good that they have reached another milestone in their marriage; it’s great that they wanted to celebrate. However, their celebration could’ve been done in a more discreet, and less expensive, way since that same weekend 8 soldiers were slain in two separate Taliban attacks in Afghanistan. They’re not just any couple. They probably are, for better or worse, the most famous couple at the moment. Everyone is going to notice what they do!
I can’t believe that he’s crying/whining [again] about criticism. He really needs to man-up and learn to take it and own it! He’s acting like the spoiled, schoolyard brat who isn’t happy until every kid wants to play with him. What more could he possibly want, when the state-run media have made possible his Teflon image, and nothing will stick?
