AMA Speaks Out– Rejects Obamacare

American Doctors Speak Out Against Obamacare–
For the first time the American Medical Association spoke out against Obamacare yesterday.
The New York Times reported:

As the health care debate heats up, the American Medical Association is letting Congress know that it will oppose creation of a government-sponsored insurance plan, which President Obama and many other Democrats see as an essential element of legislation to remake the health care system.

The opposition, which comes as Mr. Obama prepares to address the powerful doctors’ group on Monday in Chicago, could be a major hurdle for advocates of a public insurance plan. The A.M.A., with about 250,000 members, is America’s largest physician organization.

While committed to the goal of affordable health insurance for all, the association had said in a general statement of principles that health services should be “provided through private markets, as they are currently.” It is now reacting, for the first time, to specific legislative proposals being drafted by Congress.

As Maggie’s Farm reported, the Times tried to soften the blow to Dear Leader by reporting that a liberal group of 16,000 members does support the massive government intrusion. The so-called “public” (read, government) health insurance that would displace private insurance at astronomical costs, bureaucracy, and interference in medical advancements and treatment decisions.

More… Let Freedom Ring spoke with Rep. Paul Ryan‘s office yesterday and has more information on The Patient’s Choice Act. This was a good reminder:

The Democrats can’t talk about their plan giving people more freedom because their system relies on top-down control. The Democrats can’t talk about their plan giving people greater value for their health care dollars because their plan is all about quantity, not quality. The Democrats’ plan isn’t about innovation. It’s about a race to the bottom in terms of quality because their priority is about getting everyone insured.

…It’s time we chose the plan that offers freedom and value, not one-size-fits-all and rationing.

Karl Rove says if Democrats enact a public-option health-insurance program, America is on the way to becoming a European-style welfare state.
Or worse.
