FARC Folds: Suddenly Those Peace Talks Sound Like a Great Idea

Yesterday’s Winners– Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, the Colombian military, the Colombian people, the freed hostages, the US for funding and training the Colombian troops, and John McCain who was in the right place at the right time.

Yesterday’s Losers–

Who are the losers after yesterday’s dramatic rescue of the FARC hostages?
Hugo Chavez, who has given millions of dollars to the FARC, Bill Richardson, who on FOX News praised negotiations for the rescue, Barack Obama, who fails to understand the real dangers in the world, the BBC, and the FARC.

Jammie Wearing Fool says its time for Uribe to put the foot on the throat of these Marxist goons.
Agreed.

A news website close to the FARC released a statement today on how peace talks sound like a very good idea right about now.
The Australian reported:

A NEWS outlet close to Colombia’s leftist FARC guerrillas left open the possibility that the group would be open to peace talks with the government of President Alvaro Uribe.

It is the first reaction from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) guerrillas since Colombian soldiers rescued Franco-Colombian politician Ingrid Betancourt, three Americans and 11 other hostages they were holding in a daring operation on Wednesday.

“Definitely the future of Colombia cannot be civil war,” read the statement on the pro-rebel Anncol news agency website. (Here is that translated article from Anncol.)

“We call for common sense and to make room for peace.”

The Anncol statement also invited the FARC to “not waste a historic opportunity” to hold negotiations that “would lead to a political exit to this conflict … even though the Bogota administration cannot be trusted”.

Anncol routinely transmits FARC statements and comments from the guerrilla leadership.

Oh… And, this really isn’t much of a surprise but the FARC website hates John McCain and says Obama will win the election.
