"Black National Anthem" Performed At Denver's State Of The City Address

All rise…
The Black National Anthem as sung in Denver:

“Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us;
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun,
Let us march on till victory is won…”

Bizarre.
The folks in Denver are now singing the “Black National Anthem” at City meetings:
(4 minutes 30 seconds)

Strange.

Slapstick Politics reported on how well this went over with the locals.

Exit Question: How many versions of the anthem do you suppose they’ll be singing at the DNC Convention in Denver next month?

UPDATE: Singer Rene Marie explained her actions later on Tuesday:

She explained her song was an artistic expression of her love for her country. She said she meant no disrespect of any kind and that her song was in no way intended to be a political statement. She apologized for any problems she may have created.

It was not intended to be a political statement?
Oh… Of course not.
