Sarkozy's Islamophobia May Be Cause of French Rioting

This may explain the rioting last night in Paris after the historic win by conservative Nicolas Sarkozy that turned 730 cars into glow lights.

Local UMP party campaign headquarters did not survive the night, either. The building was destroyed after being set ablaze by protestors in Caen, 07 May 2007. UMP leader Nicolas Sarkozy won the presidential election yesterday in France. (AFP)

These Islamophobic remarks in Sarkozy’s acceptance speech may have set off the rioting, via Winston:

To women…
I want to launch an appeal to all those in the world who believe in the values of tolerance, freedom, democracy, humanism.

To all those who are persecuted by tyranny and dictatorship, to all children around the world, to all women ill-treated in the world, I want to say that the pride and the duty of France will be to be on their side.

France will be on the side of those Libyan nurses, locked up for eight years.

France will not abandon Ingrid Betancourt.

France will not abandon women forced to wear the burka.

Surely, that did not go over well with certain segments in France.
The BBC has video of his speech, HERE.

Meanwhile… Algerian news blamed the Jews for “Little Bush’s” win.
