Body of Missing US Soldier Found in Euphrates River

Iraqi police found the body of a man who was wearing what appeared to be a U.S. military uniform and had a tattoo on his left hand. The man had been shot in the head and chest.

The U.S. military said in an e-mail that it was looking into the report, but could not confirm it. (IHT)

The BBC reported this sad news this morning:

Iraqi police say they have found the body of one of three US soldiers missing in Iraq since 12 May.
The body was found in the Euphrates river in Musayyib, south of Baghdad. The US has not confirmed its identity.

The men disappeared after an ambush on a patrol south of Baghdad, and have been the subject of a massive search.

Update: The body was identified today as Pfc. Joseph Anzack Jr. from California.
