** Ryan Clark Columbia County Georgia, a leader in the Virginia Tech marching band.

** Emily Hilscher Rappahannock County, Va – a freshman– she may have been arguing with the killer
Emily Jane Hilscher and Ryan Clark lived next door to each other on the fourth floor of West Ambler Johnston Hall — in rooms 4040 and 4042. They were the first victims.


** Christopher J. (Jamie) Bishop a German professor

A Holocaust survivor…

** 75-year old Professor Liviu Librescu threw himself in front of the shooter,Israeli lecturer (Via Dan Riehl)
He was killed while holding off the gunman so his students could escape.
Yesterday, was Holocaust Remembrance Day.

** Reema Samaha, Centreville, Va., Freshman- from Centreville, VA was a member of The Contemporary Dance Ensemble (NPR & Zulma)



** Daniel Perez Ortega (Daniel Perez Cueva) 21, killed in his French class, according to his mother, Betty Cueva, of Peru.


** Waleed Shaalan was in his late 20s, came to Virginia Tech last year from northern Egypt to study engineering. His wife and son were back home in Egypt.


** Partahi Lumbantoruan 34, of Indonesia, a civil engineering doctoral student. Lumbantoruan’s family in Indonesia said they sold off property and cars to pay his tuition and that his goal was to become a teacher in the United States. (CBS)


** Brian Bluhm a , a civil engineering graduate student, was originally from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Brian was an avid sports fan and devoted member of his Bible study group, Bluhm “filled people with joy around him all the time,” said James Gardner, a softball teammate.


** Mary Read -a freshman at the college, was in a French class Monday morning. Mary was born in South Korea into an Air Force family and lived in Texas and California before settling in Annandale. She wanted to join a sorority.

** Ross Alameddine a freshman– a mother mourns. Reema Samaha and Ross Alameddine, both 19, are Lebanese in origin.


** Daniel O’Neil a graduate student in engineering from Rhode Island. Daniel wrote his own songs, which he posted on a Web site, www.residenthippy.com.(AP)



** Jeremy Herbstritt 27, of Bellefonte, Pa., according to Penn State University, his alma mater and his father’s employer. (MSNBC & Newsday)


** Erin Peterson a member of Phi Sigma Pi — Alpha Rho chapter. Two of the students killed in yesterday’s shooting rampage at Virginia Tech had gone to the same Virginia high school as the alleged gunman- Erin Peterson and Reema Samaha.


** Nicole White, 20, International Studies major from Hampton Roads, Va. She was a 2004 honor graduate of Smithfield High School.


** Michael Pohle- Michael Pohle of Raritan Township, New Jersey was a 2002 graduate of Hunterdon Central High School. Pohle was majoring in biological sciences at Virginia Tech, where he also played on the lacrosse team.

** Julia Pryde, a graduate student from Middletown, N.J., was known for being an exceptional student as well as for her sweet demeanor


** Lauren McCain On her MySpace page, McCain listed “the love of my life” as Jesus Christ. Her family said the 20-year-old international studies major became a Christian some time ago. “Her life since that time has been filled with His love that continued to overflow to touch everyone who knew her,” the family said in a statement.


** Minal Panchal 26, was missing for two days. Her country was praying for her. Minal wanted to be an architect like her father, who died four years ago. She was very keen to go to the United States for postgraduate studies and thrilled when she gained admission last year, said Chetna Parekh, a friend who lives in the bustling middle-class Mumbai neighborhood of Borivali, India, where Panchal lived before coming to Virginia Tech. Her body will be handed over to her family ‘in two to three days’


** Jocelyn Couture-Nowak, left, – a French professor at Virginia Tech. A Montreal native, Nowak taught at Virginia Tech with her husband, the head of the horticultural department. (ABC) She was a Canadian.


** Austin Cloyd Freshman who briefly attended high school in Champaign, Ill., was an athlete and a determined student who wanted to become a U.S. ambassador. (CBS2)
