Another Duke Professor Plays Judge, Jury & Fool

Karla Holloway is upset that the accused Duke lacrosse students were asked to come back to school.

Duke professor Karla Holloway
She is upset that Duke is allowing two innocent students (they are still innocent, aren’t they?) back into school after wrongfully excusing them for bogus rape charges.
The AP reports:

DURHAM, N.C. – A Duke University professor resigned from her committee assignments, saying she was upset by the administration’s decision to invite two lacrosse players accused of sexual assault back to campus.

“The decision by the university to readmit the students, especially just before a critical judicial decision on the case, is a clear use of corporate power, and a breach, I think, of ethical citizenship,” Karla Holloway, an English professor and former dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, wrote to Duke’s black faculty caucus.

“Despite our judgments about the prosecutor’s own lack of principled conduct, it is not ours to become the judge or subvert the process,” she wrote.

Then why does Karla get to become the judge or subvert the process?

Good riddance!

Holloway was one of 88 faculty members at Duke who endorsed an ad last April in the campus newspaper that included anonymous quotes from students discussing racism and sexual assault on Duke’s campus. She said she receives angry, racist e-mails attacking her for being among the school’s critics.

History News Network asked this question of the Duke staff back in April, 2006, when this case was making national headlines:

How many of the Duke 88 would affix their signatures to a public affirmation that they are “listening” to the exculpatory evidence of a student at their own institution, and expressing concern that local authorities could be veering toward a miscarriage of justice regarding Seligmann? Or do they “listen” only to versions of events that conform to their preconceived worldview, like the student at North Carolina Central, seeking “justice for things that happened in the past”?

It looks like the answer is obvious.

A week ago, a different Duke professor was slapped with a lawsuit for harassing an un-indicted player from the Duke lacrosse team.
