Not That You Would Know, But Today's Arrested Mayor Is Democrat

There was something missing in all reports on the arrest of Niles, IL Mayor Nicholas Blase today. Although most accounts noted that Blase was 78 today, and many noted that despite his arrest “he was a good man”, but not one mentioned that he was a democrat!

Not one in at least 110 reports. Not one!

The AP reports today on the arrest of a corrupt mayor today from the Chicago area:

A longtime suburban mayor was arrested Thursday on federal charges of steering business to a friend’s insurance agency in return for bribes ($280,000) for almost two decades.

Nicholas Blase, Niles’ mayor for 45 years, was arrested on his 78th birthday as he left his house.

According to court documents, Blase threatened to withhold liquor licenses and business licenses from restaurant owners unless they bought insurance from an agency once owned by his late friend Ralph Weiner and now run by Weiner’s sons.

Prosecutors said the payoffs went on for 17 years.

The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, CBS2, hide the fact that Blase is a democrat as well.

In fact, you have to do some digging to find out that the Nile’s mayor Blase is a longtime democrat:

Niles Mayor Nicholas Blase, one of the most influential Democratic mayors in the suburban area who’s also close to Chicago Mayor Richard Daley.
