Pakistan is accusing German police of torturing a 28 year-old Pakistani student to death after he was arrested for entering a publishing house carrying a knife. Germany claims the man hung himself in jail:

German policemen have tortured to death a Pakistani, Amir Abdu Rehaman Cheema, reported Geo television on Thursday.

Amir was arrested in Berlin for attacking a German newspaper’s editor for printing the cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Amir’s father Nazir Cheema told the channel that a Foreign Office official had telephoned him on Thursday and told him about his son’s death while in police custody.

Cheema said Amir’s body would be handed over to the Pakistani embassy in Berlin on Monday for sending to Pakistan. He lamented the government could take no action, saying, Pakistan would accept whatever German officials say – my family is actually worried about Amir’s dead body.

Cheema was arrested for wielding a knife inside a German publishing house.

Aljazeera explains the arrest of Cheema back in March:

Cheema, who was studying at the University of Applied Sciences in the Bavarian city of Muenchberg since 2004, was arrested on March 20 after trying to enter the Axel Springer publishing house building in Berlin carrying a knife.

Springer is the publisher of Die Welt newspaper, which in February had re-published the controversial caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad that first appeared in September in a Danish publication.

The cartoons sparked rallies by Muslims across the world. Some protests turned violent, including in Pakistan, where at least five people died in the unrest.

The caricatures – including one that depicts the prophet with a turban shaped like a bomb with a burning fuse – were deemed blasphemous.

Little Green Footballs is demanding an investigation.
