The mock Human Rights Commission at the UN is not ready to give up on their disgusting little charade.
Annan and Bolton Disagree on Draft for New Rights Group
Do these sound like bold reform moves to you?
* 47 countries instead of the commission’s 53
* 96 out of 191 voting members approval; absolute majority instead of simple majority of those voting
* resolution maintains the right of regional groups to put forward a slate of candidates that has enabled violators to join the panel
The UN does not want to reopen negotiations on the Human Rights group:
Asked about Mr. Bolton’s suggestion of reopening negotiations, Mr. Eliasson said, “My belief is that a continued round of negotiations in the circumstances that exist in this world and in the circumstances that exist on our reform agenda here at the United Nations would not be fruitful.”
And, then there’s Kofi’s nutty statement to the “Alliance of Civilization’s Group. (Via LGF)
…And some of the strongest reactions (over cartoons!)– perhaps especially the more violent ones – have been seen in Muslim countries where many people feel themselves the victims of excessive Western influence or interference.
Whether or not those who published the caricatures were deliberately seeking to provoke, there is no doubt that some of the violent reactions have encouraged extremist groups within European societies, whose agenda is to demonize Muslim immigrants, or even expel them…
(I am assuming that the UN is including the countries that rioted and slaughtered innocents and torched churches over simple cartoons as “civilized.”)
