Pastors Gone Wild/Media Gone Wild

PAT ROBERTSON SAYS ARIEL SHARON DIVIDED GOD’S LAND,
VIDEO HERE

Pat Robertson says “Sharon should never have divided God’s land.”
But if you are not monitoring the 700 Club you may have missed the outrage!

Robertson, who has not made the headlines since he called for the already paranoid, Hugo Chavez’s assassination, made headlines again yesterday. But, the media was stretching on this one. Here is what was actually said:

As the Israeli prime minister battled for life, Robertson seemed to suggest to viewers on his “700 Club” television show that Sharon was being punished for his policies in Gaza and the West Bank.

“The prophet Joel makes it very clear that God has enmity against those who, quote, ‘divide my land.’ God considers this land to be his.

(Half of Israel believes this.)

“You read the Bible, he says, ‘This is my land.’ And for any prime minister of Israel who decides he’s going carve it up and give it away, God says, ‘No. This is mine.'”

(Again, half of conservative Israel was not happy that Sharon gave back land to the Palestinians.)

Robertson, who frequently provokes outrage with his remarks, said he was “sad” to see Sharon fall sick, and that he was a “very likeable person.”

“I prayed with him personally. But here he is at the point of death. (true) He was dividing God’s land, (again, true) and I would say woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the EU, the United Nations or the United States of America.”

(So, Robertson actually says not to give the Holy Land away, period.)

“God said, ‘This land belongs to me, you better leave it alone.'”

(Again, don’t give the Holy Land away.)

There you have it! I may not agree with it one way or the other, but after reading and watching the video, it certainly is not as harsh as the media makes it out to be. It’s not the slap in the face I had expected from all of the media outrage. And, if you are not monitoring the 700 Club you might have missed it. That is how Robertson views the world and there are many people who believe this same thing about the Occupied Territories. I was beginning to think this had been overblown and then I noticed this…

The sources who were cited behind the outrage:

* Far left People For the American Way Foundation which has received money in the past from CBS itself where this article was posted. PFAW monitor the 700 Club so you can probably guess who picked up on this.

* Next you have the Rev. Barry Lynn, executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State who along with the ACLU have done more to eradicate symbols of Christianity in the country than any other groups.

* Anti-Defamation League is another group that has a history of attacking conservatives and even called the FreedomFest “extremist”.

I am not historically a Robertson apologist and what Robertson said was untimely but the media today has managed to put their own words and meaning on what was actually said!

Pat Robertson was not the only pastor who got himself in a pickle yesterday.
An anti-gay pastor from Tulsa, Oklahoma got picked up for propositioning an undercover policeMAN.
I’d say that kinda takes the oomf out of his next anti-gay sermon.

Glenn Reynolds had more to say on the latest Robertson gaffe.
