The discussion as to whether Bush is heir to Churchill has been passed around the blogs and editorial pages this past week. Although, some on the left would rather explain as “happenstance” the reason for the massive democratic transformations we are witnessing, the Georgia Messenger sides with those in the Bush camp :
Although Georgia’s next major elections are some time away, the election in Kyrgyzstan, coming just a week before parliamentary elections in Moldova, is a timely reminder of the need for Georgia to consider its own electoral system well in advance of elections.
Independent Georgia has been unable so far to replace its president through an election; and it will not be possible to evaluate the Rose Revolution as one of several “landmark events in the history of liberty,” as President George Bush described it last week, until parliamentary and presidential elections are held that are fully open, democratic and free.
