One man corrupts a whole society for generations…
The notion of a jailed, mass-murdering terrorist running for president is ludicrous. In America.
That’s not the case, though, in the Palestinian Authority. A recent poll finds the two top candidates in the Palestinian presidential race, Abu Mazen and Marwan Barghouti, running neck and neck. Like Ramzi Yousef, Marwan Barghouti is, in fact, in jail—a convicted terrorist, proved in court to have blood on his hands.
(Abu Mazen is a strange enough candidate. In addition to writing a whole book maintaining that the Holocaust is a Zionist fraud,he was Yasser Arafat’s right-hand man for four decades, planning and funding attacks.)
None of this, of course, stops the enthusiasts of the “new, post-Arafat era” from perceiving buds of peace sprouting everywhere.
